>13 1/2 turns lock to lock steering didn't respond in time.
>its not that many turns! u over exadurate tooo much damn,Lol
>Matt
OK kid maybe just a bit, maybe it was 5-6 turns and 1 1/2 turns slop in the steering box, whatever it was it is a major major drawback to the 140. A B23 on its crossmember, and a nice 2.6 turn power rack would be the hot ticket for one of them thangs.

RE: Volvo 142s

This car has no wheel slop! And when you turn the wheel it goes the way you point it. Thats good enough for me! it doesn't have a lot of body roll either. But i would like to do that 2.6 turn power rack thing! how much would that cost?

RE: RallyRat's Okie 144 rally car ...

I have been out all night tonight alley rallying. Got up to about 65mph in 1 alley and had enough time to safely slow down. My 142 is so fast!!! handles super great thanks to IPD front sways. I also tested it out around pavement and my find who drives this dodge dynasty followed me. He said his car was sliding had body roll and peeling around the corners trying to keep up. I love this car!!!!!! So fun to drive. I bet u guys think im pretty dumb, but i have never had that much fun in my life.

RE: RallyRat's Okie 144 rally car ...

I got pulled over yesterday night, the cop said i was doing over 75 when i was just changing lanes after some dumb tailgater. I just got on the freeway and had started slowing down after i was in the slower lane and next thing i know light bar! 105 bucks, Supid cops! the ticket was actually 595.00 because the idiot cop said i had expired insurance. When i looked at it i saw it wasn't! The moron doesn't even know how to read! Wish i was in the volvo i might not have gotten the ticket! instead i was in the nice car

RE: Volvo 142s

I have homologation papers for '65, '66, and '69 122S's, as well as for '68 and '70 142's. None for the 544's, sorry... I can probably scan and email them to you if you'd like. I think they're partially in swedish...

Oi Nick! if you're going to scan them, maybe we could prevail on some friends the host them so the could be downloaded as a file or whatever it's called in computer talk to save you emailing a billion pages several times.
I'd like to add your stuff to the 1967,69, 70, 72 SAAB 96 V4 Group 1, Group 2, and Group4, papers I have.

No, you are in town, use the telephone like I have said. Did you order those springs from Topi?

Jim I was happy to see a 142 out there back in 2000ish I had picked up a 144 Rally Car from Topi and I absolutely loved that car but I also had a single seat sports racer at the same time and one had to go, I sold the Volvo and kept the D-sports racer............man I miss that Volvo.

Dan Thiel, from Rochester, NY, had several 142s over the years in the mid-70' to mid-80s. I rode with Danny for 5 years and we had a couple top-10 finishes in the US and Canada. The car was solid and fast. It was pretty light, too; plastic hood, fenders, trunk lid and doors. The doors were a bit scary and got replaced with steel after a bit.

We used a B20 bored to 2.2 liter and a Volvo Marine cam with twin Solex carbs. The trans. was mated to a P1800 overdrive modified to work down to second gear, which gave 7 speeds.

After 5 years, the shell started to come apart and the car was replaced by a 240 Turbo built by Wayne Baldwin. That one was real fast.

The former Jeff Griffin 142 at Gorman sometime in the 90's. Apologies since I don't know the photographer, this was given to me by the current owner.

And Phil -- what happened to that 240 turbo you mentioned? What was the last paint scheme on it? I also heard there was a Karl Scheible 242T around the same time.

I'm currently sanding the paint off of my 240. Being Malik's old ride with 80-some-odd documented rallies on it (I have forgotten the official count), I've found about 5 different layers of paint jobs on it so far. Cheers.

As I recall, Dave Marzetti (in Ontario) owns Bo Skowronnek's old 240. I think the car is still around, but not sure when it last ran.

But I remember Dan Thiel. He was pretty competitive with the 142. I ran against him in a few events.

Baldwins - Wayne & Debby

Wayne worked for Volvo US corporate (still does, I believe), and rallied a series of Volvos (not with any official backing). They did very well.

They always were a hoot to compete against. Although Debby tended to zone out when they were on transits - often just following us. Several times we purposely took them way off course to see how far they would follow and if she would wake up (she never did) (this was entirely legal back then - there was no such thing as being illegaly off course).

Search Rally Racing News. One example:

This thread warms the cockles of my heart! We've been pretty competitive in local TSD events in our '70 144s since we started a couple of years ago. Would love to take the old beast (probably after a body swap to remove the speed holes) out stage rallying, and it's great to know you guys are out there. Here's some pics.

Volvo's

I met this guy on the hill at PPIHC this summer, really nice car but was running WAY rich so I loaned him some leaner Weber main jets. He has rallied this car all over, check the stickers. IMHO 122s are way cool looking.
