Just wondering how well Volvo 142s went in rallying back in the day.

Well, if I were to tell you that a 142 took a podium on a WRC event, would you believe me?


The 1973 1000 Lakes Rally (or Rally Finland as it is now known) - Markku Alen entered his very first WRC event in a 142 and finished 2nd overall, here is a photo:

Hannu Mikkola also entered a 142 in the same event but retired.

I competed at that rally and remember that Mikkola was doing very well until his co-driver had to quit the event and go to hospital when his seat broke after landing on a jump and he injured his back.

My father bought Bo's old Volvo and drove it on and off. I drove it to a 4th overall at STPR and had a couple of other top finishes. It was too old to patch together and I sold it to a person in Canada who wanted to get into rally. That car was scary fast!

Thanks for the video link. I just watched Part 1 and saw that Hourihan and I are shown at about 1:21 into the video.

Is that Scott Harvey's Colt in the rally too or just a look-alike?
