Some of you have heard of 24 Hours of Lemons. Well there's another similar series for endurance racing a $500 car and it's coming to Colorado. Mark your calendars and blight your driveways:

27-28 March 2010
Pueblo Motorsports Park (Pueblo, CO)
Entry Deadline: edit: 15 February 2010
WWW.CHUMPCAR.COM

I've been volunteered to be a local pimp, rep, and poc for the series. I've done Lemons, and it was a blast. This should be every bit as much fun.

The basics:
Your car's value before safety equipment is $500. The cage, seat, belts, brakes & tires don't count in that $500. Check out the rules here: http://www.chumpcar.com/rules_fees.php
Almost any vehicle can be a contender. We built a C10 chevy pickup (really) and finished 20th out of 105 in Reno.

There are some mild differences in the rules, but anything built for Chumpcar should also work in Lemons (Lemons will be at HPR in July). This formula is really taking off, there are many more venues coming up in 2010.

There's a forum on the website, and my email is richvs@chumpcar.com I hope to see you there.

March 27th! When was the last time you brought a backup set of snows to a road course?!

best
-Rich

Event is at the end of March.
Contact me for details of No Coast Motorsports winter special on Chump Car roll cage construction.
I believe Checkpoint is going to have a Chump Car safety package with seats, mounts, harnesses, and other required accessories as well.

Turbocharged V8 Volvo 240 is the best car that would make economical sense for the RA crash and bang series. Rumor is that they'll be $100 entry and not limited entry. A newer Volvo converted to RWD would be more marketable.
Mark's going to cream at this one:

Here's some info from Topi about what the Finns are doing:
Topi Hynanen said:
They are building RWD - the way they SHOUD be - Volvos in large quantities.
My favorite is this cute and best looking new Volvo C30. They also sell kits in various configurations. Raw body w RWD panels, flares, etc starts at 5500 Euros. (1Euro = $ 1.48 Bush Pesos)
Most use B23 EVO & non-EVO (2.8-3.3 liter) engines, Finnish gearbox & rr diff, Sellholm suspension and pretty much all the stuff from old RWD S40 and 940s they'he been racing for 15 years.
Who wants to be first here?

Too expensive Dave.
You need something more like this.

Or something like the Starlet but throw a crotch rocket engine in it.
Craigslist is not really the place to shop for the car though. Doesn't leave much budget for doing any modifications to stuff. Making friends with someone at a junkyard isn't a bad idea though. I think Dave Coleman's teams' Miata was two wrecked cars that the welded together to make one.
