So 45min into the show I am interupted by 25min of late breaking news about NASCAR. I watched the 25min of dribble about eating hot dogs, drinking beer, and boring left hand turns(which is also the way water in the toilet goes down)commentated by nascar hired comedians(larry, moe, and curley). If SPEED channel would of told us it would be 25min before they would return, I would have had a quickie with my girl(who was also pissed, cause she couldn't see Colin) or I could have taken a Sh*t. Why couldn't they wait 15min? Are they going to break into a NASCAR race and announce the winner of the WRC rally of Argentina,I don't think so!!!! I'm really glad I was at home to watch instead of recording it, otherwise the tape would of went out the window. Even with the repeated (rally) shows a couple days later, SPEED channel is still all about NASCAR. Nascar isn't the only motor racing in the US,figure it out SPEED.

Chris...still mad

this is at least the second time they've done this. they are REALLY screwing things up. they interruppted a LIVE motorcycle race (can't remember which one) to give latebreaking nascar news. How stinking important is it to interrupt the current show when there is nascar coverage before and after??? plus, isn't there enough nascar coverage on rpm2night? yuck

The only thing I could come up with to explain the NASCAR intermission was that the show wasn't done yet, and Ralph was still working on the second half.

Argentina is on this side of the pond, so they don't have as much time as they do for those European events.

I'm grasping at straws here. But I did take a nice nap during the NASCAR show...

I hope the Hillbillies don't ruin the WRC like they did for "OnTrack Magazine". After "NASCAS Scene", SC, bough it it went down fast. Used to me favorite motorsport magazine by Paul Oxman.

Nascar = 300lb baby gorilla.
WRC = 800lb real gorilla (albeit on a different continent)

I don't think we have to worry about the outcome of this battle, if it can be described as such.

I did find it highly annoying to be taken away from my (semi-not really) live show to watch a few yayhoos sit around a desk, relaxedly yapping about nothing very interesting.

I think the possibility that the show simply wasn't quite done is a possibility, although I am not so confident that Speed is technically advanced enough to have a partial show ready for broadcast while Ralph is desperately hammering out American Karaoke on top of the foreign announcers.

I just can't wait to see the half-hour Oregon Trail show! :)

I was and still am P**SED OFF!!! I was recording the show all weekend long. Friday night, it seems that there was NASCAR coverage on instead, and I only got about 20 minutes of WRC. (maybe I set the wrong time on the vcr) Saturday I figure well I will get it at 6pm. Wrong! It didn't come on till 6:30 even though the program guide said 6 and another show started at 7. (still only half hour coverage)
So I set up to tape again Saturday night only to have them break in with late breaking Nascar coverage. (okay fine show who won the race and get back to my WRC) So they show the 20 second clip of the final lap and then go to three hillbillies talking about the race. F that! You don't break into my WRC to show three hillbillies BSing about Nascar. (Nothing like cussing like a mad drunk at 7am sunday morning and wake up the wife) She hears me cussing and runs down to see what is wrong to find out about my WRC coverage. Her comment, well it is a NASCAR channel. Anyway I am still ticked off and need to find a definite replay times so I can either tape or watch them.

Jake Rowlands

And yes I will be emailing a letter to Speedchannel about my disgust with how they handled it.

It's simpler than that. Fox has 3 channels to put racing on: Fox Sports, FX, and SPEED, in order of priority. They shift the coverage down a channel when they need the higher priority channel for something else. So, when the Winston finished on FX, they probably told the viewers to switch to SPEED for ccntinuing coverage, or stay on FX for something else.

As did I. I'm glad I stayed up to watch it (and adjust my
taping). Now all I need is to get a clean copy of Day 1, since the Saturday night repeat was joined in progress after the NASCAR practice. Between that and the Friday night issues, I still haven't seen the whole show.

I do have one nice thing to say about Ralph though, he is VERY good at taking the totally over their head, super tecnnical WRC down to the NASCRAP fan's level.

I work with some of those NASCRAP guys, and Ralph explains little things that they dont understand that we all assume everyone knows. In the coverage for Cyprus, Ralph said something like "See that big rock? It will make your tire go flat."

Here is a true one, Ralph said "See that handle on the floor? Thats Tommi's handbrake so he can slide the rear tires in tight corners." They all said "$hit Howdy! I need one of them thangs in my dang monster truck!" True story that one.

We had a music festival in my town this weekend and I was upset that I was missing the WRC coverage to go, but it looks like I was the lucky one by not watching.

I recorded the Saturday night show. The VCR was programmed to record 1 hour. I sat down on Sunday afternoon to watch it. It was a good race. Tommi was closing the gap and then...WHAT THE HELL?! Needless to say I was pissed off the rest of the afternoon!

There was an interesting article in Sport Compact Car magazine a couple of months ago about NASCAR and Speed Channel. NASCAR brings in the money for Speed Channel. In turn, they have more money to improve coverage of some of the other events. Rally now has 3 days coverage when the event is happening rather than 1 hour of coverage 4 weeks after the event has happened. So, what I now do is avoid the channel until rally is on! You can find most the rally TV listings on
http://rally.sandmansoftware.com/tv.shtml

I checked out http://rally.racing-live.com this morning to read up on other news on the rally. Carlos Sainz is now the winner!? (first place) Crazy...

This is all from the Speed web site, using their program listing page filtering for rally with no calendar selection. And these listings are all eastern time.

It is frustrating that the initial shows were interrupted/moved, but look at all the second chances we'll get to see it. And it's still better than nothing...

RE: Upcoming Rally on Speed

Ben, you are absolutely right, and in my rant of a letter to speed channel, I did end it by saying that we do appreciate the increased coverage of rally. I also pointed out - how many viewers did they completely piss off by interuppting the rally with NASCAR vs. how many viewers they pleased by showing it. Especially since they didn't let anyone know they would have a wrap up of the Winston immediately following the race. How would anyone other than those of us watching the rally even know it was on? Not smart on thier part me thinks....

RE: Upcoming Rally on Speed

I am happy to see that I was not the only one pissed off. I was at work in a patients room watching(sneaking peeks) the race when they broke in to go to nascar. Why did they have to interrupt in the first place? Why couldn't they show the Nascar CRAP after Rally Argentina was over? Oh I forgot all the nascar fans have to be in bed by Midnight or they turn into Pumpkins. I am sick of all the interruptions. On Friday and Saturday both Nights the Rally Started late (at least in Central Time) because they were having a rondy-round discussion about INDY. I like Indy but, when you sit down ready to go to watch your favorite sport and it is delayed because of this sh*t it gets old. Ben, thanks for all the times for replays but I personally like watching it the same day of the race. I am impressed with Speeds coverage of the Rallies but stop with the interruptions.x(

RE: Upcoming Rally on Speed

*sigh*

i was meekly watching a tape of the argentina coverage with the sound off because my roommate was listening to his crappy techno when the NASCAR stuff came on he turned it up and started jumping around the room all happy and blabbering about how happy he was to see it.

then the rally came back on, he watched it for a little while, and then went back to whatever he was doing and his crappy techno.

i've tried educating him, (i have an evo vi door and hood hanging on the wall for pete's sake) he thinks rally is cool, but comes up with things like doing paris-dakar in his restored '57 chevy pickup.

he said i should chop the top off of my fiat 500 and put a big block in it.

some people will never get it.
