The Feb. 27 issue of Autosport reported that Barbara Armstrong and Claire Mole of Great Britian are attempting to form "the first all-female line-up in the SCCA series (ProRally)". In my letter to the editor, I mentioned Gail Truess and Pam McGarvey and Jamie Thomas. I also warned them that I was posting here with the request that every one who can, send Autosport the names of the all woman teams that have competed in PRORally, ProRally and what ever else we have called this sport. The address is [email protected]

Don't forget Janice Damitio and Amity Trowbridge and their great run at the ProRally PGT title a few years back.

I also saw that, and passed it on to Lesley Suddard to let her respond...

Some of the recent all female teams:

Gail Truess and Pam McGarvey/Cindy Krolikowski/Pattie Hughes-Mayer
Lesley Suddard and Anne Thomas
Ilana Rosenshein and Jennifer Cote
...

(I'll let others add to the list)

And my ex and her sister, Kelly Brandt and Corky DuBois in a SAAB 96 with the windshield banner "TEAM #####", that Rally magazine would not publish (we can't put THAT in print).

press on,

I remembered the team name and car. Just could not remember their names. I mentioned them in the letter I sent to Autosport. Please forward the information. Thanks, Richard

Don't forget Kristen and Janice Tabor, Jamie Thomas and Tina Lengacher (for a few races, anyway!), Paula G. from SoCal, Amy Berbezano (she's pretty fast in that 2WD Eclipse!), Janice Damitio (her and Mom spent this last weekend saying, "hi Janice!" to each other)...

I'm sure there are more that we don't know about, running near the back of the pack with little recognition for stepping up to the plate in this mostly-men sport... :) I sent off my email to the mag, so hopefully they'll get the idea that these two women from abroad are not the first all-women team!

Way to go Kristen. And just to add, Thursday is print day for Autosport so today is the last day to send them any thing. Given the several hour difference in time between here or where ever you are and London, send your message now.

I need to contribute! Gail McGuire who won the Production Championship with me in the Beelte has run numerous rallies as a driver and co-driver part of an all woman team. She has driven the One-Lap is a suedo Volvo all lady factory entry. She won the divisional driver's champioship in her truck and I believe that on a couple of occasions she had a female co-driver. Ben Bradley should interview her. She was third OA with Dick Zwitzer in the '73 (?) POR and has DRIVEN in the Shell 4000.

Trust me that lady has stories! I believe that she is also Chairing STPR.

I talked with Claire Mole and she said this is news to her! They had been working on a deal to compete here, but the deal had fell through months ago

Thank you friends for your support of the female competitors in US Rally. I have been competing for 19 years and have had a female co-driver the majority of the time. See if you remember all these names that have been fearless enough to tell me where to go! Jean Lindamood, Charlotte Greene, Sue Kemper, Kerry Voll, Amity Trowbridge, Cindy Krolikowski, Pattie Mayer and Pam McGarvey. If I left someone out, it was not intentional, only dust on the brain. Perhaps this article was a backwards compliment. The most common question I am asked is how the guys respond to racing against a woman. My answer is always the same: "when I put my helemt on I become a driver and my car does not care what my gender is". Maybe they recognized us as competitors and not just women. I might be dreaming but the world of motorsports is always changing. I've had the opportunity to try a number of different types of racing but nothing compares to rallying! There is a number of Champ Car drivers that agree!

There's a pix of Dick and Karen (you can just barely make her out in the car) at the fuel stop at the 1975 Sunriser. Suzy French was Karen's codriver on this event and I think that's her standing with her back to the camera at far right.

I think that would be the 1972 POR. I think this is a pix of Dick and Gail on that event.
