For those that are familiar with the Colorado Cog, a PGT car in years past has always been a threat for the OA podium but it hasn't happened, yet.

Anyone know the last time a PGT car took an OA podium at a National?

Thanks guys.

I would have gone through the results on my own but had to leave the wonderful world of persistent internet access as I posted...

It would be scary to see Tanner in an Open class or GN car, with his mental aproach to driving and understanding of car control. I think Tanner is one of the few here that can run with Pat.

What about Group 2/5 in a top 3?

Add to that the 1992 Capitol Forest Stages in Washington, where Tim O'Neil and Tom Burgess were first overall in a PGT Galant VR-4.

Correct, 3rd OA at STPR 2004.

Also, Jon Nichols was 3rd OA at the 2005 Rocky Mountain Rally, and Frank Sprongl was 4th OA (12 seconds out of 3rd) at the 2005 Tall Pines Rally.

Mike Whitman / Flynn Baglin - 2nd overall behind Lawler's factory Hyundai at the 1999 Prescott Forest ProRally in a G2 Datsun 510. I was there - that was some awesome driving. Unforgetable experience for the first rally I ever attended. :)

Carl Jardevall / Amity Trowbridge - 3rd overall behind the Hyundai factory cars at the 2000 Oregon Trail Prorally. Wish I had been there to see that too.

Don't forget that Ralph Kosmides/Joe Noyes took 3rd at that event in their Gr. 5 Supra. As I recall, Bryan Hourt ran in second in his G2 Honda Civic for a good portion of that event before making a mistake and getting road points and being relegated to fifth. He was "blisteringly fast" on the narrow-treelined Mingus Mountain stage. That was also Pat Richard's debut on U.S. soil in a PGT 2.5 RS with Ben Bradley as his navvie!

Steve Gingras/Bill Westrick were leading the rally OVERALL that year in their PGT Eclipse after the penultimate stage... then the tranny packed it up on the transit to the final stage. (BTW, I remember seeing JVL race that weekend in his SAAB 96, and he finished pretty well!)

Well that was a good drive but he was beat by SECOND Overall by Sam Bryan/ Rob Walden in the Scanwest Autosport Saab 900 16v which had a motor, transmission, lsd, suspension, and brakes supplied by the guy in the Saab in and out of 4th and 5th place overall: a 1969 Saab 96.
(Fighting with the pleasantest guy you'd want to fight with Jerry Sweet in another Saab, this time a 99)

So:
1st OA Henry Joy in an EvoBitchi
2nd OA Sam Bryan, Saab 900 16v
3rd Mike Hurst in Nissan with a FJ20.

That was the one rally that, to this day, we let slip through our fingers... Still hurts...

At The Pines this year we were 3rd overall until the penalty for the broken window. Frank was fourth and that brought him up to 3rd. He would have finished 3rd but there was some weird road penalty for him as well;). Dont forget these were open dif. P2 cars not even G2.
