Saturday Jamie Thomas and Matt Gauger finished first overall at the Treeline Rally. I believe this is the first first overall for a female driver on a Performance Rally in North America history.

Can anyone name another female driver who has finished first overall at any Performance Rally in North America?

RE: A First In North America?

She is also the first woman to win overall a California Rally Series rally.
Way to go Jamie!!!!! David Sutton was impressed Jamie....

Also she will be featured on the 'Street Tuner Challenge" show along with the rally itself episode 10..late week of September 2005. The producer is suppose to confirm with me the date and I will update you when to watch.

Maybe not a performance rally event, but didn't Michelle Mouton win at Pikes Peak?

Yes Dennis, she did but, we discussed this Saturday nite and it wasn't a performance rally, even though it was a rally car, probably modified from rally trim but, a rally car for one 12 mile stage.

Janice Damitio - 1995 Shooting Star and 1996 Reno (according to Rally Racing News).

It is still a great result, congrats Jamie.

Among others... She won some events in the NW as well.

I have a vague recollection that Shannon Smith/Millen might have won an event overall in her brief rally career.

I think Jamie won a rallysprint once at the log sort yard in Hoquiam.

Anyway, this is her first overall win in a multi-coefficient stage rally. She's shown that she is capable of doing it, and a bunch of us were expecting to see this from her one of these days. Well done in the PGT wagon.

Congrats Jamie!

Huge congrats to Jamie and Matt! Had a feeling she was gunning for the win..;)

Also, thanks Jamie for helping Chris Wilson stay in the rally..Sounds like without that control arm he'd have DNF'd.;-)

Yes Jamie is a star! The 'A' arm rear bracket had sheared after hitting a Treeline meteor! I had no spares and Jamie only had a Left A arm, just what I needed! I dare say I could have done a patch up job and tried to finish?????? But for without Jamie's help it would have a lost cause, plus 5th O/A would have been lost.

I just love rally people. What other motorsport would a competitor give you parts to finish??

Full report coming soon.

Cheers

Chris

Congrats Jamie - you are fun to watch and even more fun to race.

I recall that Shannon did win the first rally I ever drove the Coachman stages in Olympia Wasington April 1989 in a Mazda 323 GTX... It was a 6 stage rally in one day. She was 19 at the time - as was I. I think Ray may have been co-driving.

Jamie's hot!!! I am glad that she decided to come down here, because I know she hates it (but who could blame her when you've got Oregon Trail and Wild West in your back yard?). She is always an inspiration to me when she races and her collection of Burnsie shirts makes me not feel so bad about having a couple of "I heart Markko Martin" ones myself. ;)

I think it was a good weekend for girl drivers. I was very happy to come third in G5 after my new cam/piston installation got delayed and I ended up running a stock engine putting out maybe 110 HP. I guess I am now leading G5 in WSRC? (Touch wood, I don't want to jinx anything... only four more events to go! : ) Am I the first woman to do that? Hmmmm...

GIRL POWER!!!!!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe my words on Sat night were, "Jamie may be the first lady driver to win a CRS or Club rally overall". No mention was made of a North American/Performance Rally.

Hope this clears up any ambiguity in this thread.

Janice's 1996 Reno win was both a CRS and a Divisional PRO Rally (ClubRally) win. Unless there's another Pete Morris, you were there:).

I don't believe there was any ambiguity.

Regardless, it is a great result even if it isn't a first.

Adrian

Addition:

You can also add both Liz Campbell and Gail Truess to the list of event winners.

Thanks for the update Adrian. It was a while ago!

It was quite an achievement, especially on these demanding roads.
