Rally fans who make the pilgrimage to the North American International Auto Show (known better as 'the Detroit show' to its friends) might want to stop around at the MINI display. MINI USA and MINI Canada have put the factory-entered MINI Cooper S John Cooper Works Edition that won the Unlimited Division of Targa Newfoundland 2005 on display at the show.

The little red-and-white rocket was driven by Jim Kenzie and co-driven by Brian Bourbonniere. The company hasn't announced if they are returning to defend their Targa title in 2006, but the company press release suggests they're happy to have some current era rally currency to add to the traditional Mini rally legacy.

More from the company on www.MINIUSA.com or www.MINI.ca/Targa.

Targa Newfoundland info is at www.targanewfoundland.com.

This Mini is a rocket! It was prepped specifically for the 2004 and 2005 Targas by the Sprongls at Four Star Racing. And, as Jim Kenzie proved this year, it's a winner. Kenzie is arguably Canada's top automotive journalist. He tests fast cars all over the world for a living. He's also an accomplished road racer. When he says this Mini is The Best car he has ever driven, that means something. Mini Canada is not about to enter Rally America with it, but I believe the car is available for sale. Offers in the neighbourhood of $45,000Cdn (less 14% for US) would take it. Minis are always crowd favoites. Something about them, old or new, Minis still push the spectators' buttons.
