Subaru Signs on as Title Sponsor of the
Subaru Rim of the World Rally
Round Three of the 2004 SCCA ProRally Championship Serves as the Ideal Locale for
Subaru to Demonstrate AWD Capability to the Auto Capital of the World
LANCASTER, Calif. (October 23, 2003) - - Subaru of America, Inc. has signed as the title sponsor of the 2004 Subaru Rim of the World Rally, part of the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) ProRally series. Already a presenting sponsor for the last two years through its Western Regional offices, Subaru?s sponsorship marks the eighth year the manufacturer of world class, all-wheel drive vehicles partners with the Rim of the World Rally. The title sponsorship again demonstrates Subaru?s continued commitment towards rally fans in the Western United States.
?Rim of the World is delighted to have our friends from Subaru back with us again for one of the most well known and toughest rally races held in North America,? said Ray Hocker, chairman of the 2004 Subaru Rim of the World Rally. ?Subaru?s legendary all-wheel drive technology and its ?Driven by What?s Inside? marketing message are a natural fit for our event and our rally fans.?
Subaru of America, Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. of Japan. Headquartered near Philadelphia, the company markets and distributes all-wheel drive Subaru vehicles, parts and accessories through a network of nearly 600 dealers across the United States. Subaru of America, Inc. is the only car company that offers symmetrical all-wheel drive as standard equipment on every vehicle in its product line. Subaru has been the best-selling import wagon in America for the past 20 years, based on R.L. Polk & Company new vehicle retail registration statistics calendar year-end 2002.
"Subaru is proud to be associated with the Rim of The World Rally, the premier rally event on the West Coast,? said John Hubach, Subaru of America, Inc. Western Region Fixed Operations manager. ?The Rim provides Subaru a unique venue to showcase our performance strategy with our full-line of symmetrical AWD Vehicles, Parts and Accessories."
The 2004 Subaru Rim of the World Rally will be held on May 7~8, 2004 in the Lancaster/Palmdale region of Southern California, situated 40 minutes north of Los Angeles. Commonly referred to as ?The Rim?, the rally race is round three of the 2004 SCCA ProRally Championship. Privateer entrees along with factory-backed teams, including Subaru?s own race-prepped WRX rally cars, will face the treacherous terrain and rutted fire roads in the hills of California?s Angeles National Forest. The televised 2003 event saw over 80 entries undertake the challenges of ?The Rim? and the 2004 rally promises to deliver even greater competition and gravel pounding excitement.
