We're here in Co. Springs and tried to get up there to make some notes and it was closed. Called the Ranger station at 6pm and they said they are plowing 4 inches of snow off of the 9 mile and higher mark, trying to get the hill open for qualifying tomorrow.

We'll be trying to go up tomorrow after 9am, to make notes...

So, I guess the horsepower loss due to altitude won't be a primary concern up there near the top, eh? :)

Keep us posted!

Colorado Spectator report in

I'm heading down tomorrow night for the party, see other thread and come! but I will be there thurs-sat. Below is an e-mail from the coloradorally.org mailing list on this mornings practice.

"Practice this morning was limited by the 2 foot snow drifts on the top
section. All cars ran from the start line to the ski area.
Even at picnic grounds there was an inch of hail-snow -ice on the sides
of the road. The dirt above picnic grounds started off frozen but warmed
quick.
On the last run one of the big rigs went off and down in a ditch. The
line was drying but outside the line was a gooey, slippery, mess."

We did about 3.5 runs up and down the hill, writing and checking our notes. By the time we made our way down at 7:30pm, it was pretty dry, with some wet spots where the snow melt was keeping things wet. The real kicker is the roughness of the roads. Real broken up on top, in the dirt, lots of holes and such.

They were doing some grading, but don't know what they will do in the next couple of days.

I spectated in about 1996, the snow at the top ment the race was shortened that year...

Still Monster and Millen looked good down in the trees where I was.
