I believe it is the Sheridan Inn that has a bunch of rooms recently released - check the S*D website -- www.sno-drift.org

I'll be posting road condition updates etc in the guest-book until our updates page is up and running.

And Interestingly after all the route disclosure discussions: Two reports of Practicing Cars -- these are rumors to date, but some details were published in the local paper.
1) Resident run off the road by cars practicing for Sno*Drift
2) Single car colision of car practicing for Sno*Drift

I'll confirm any details I can, and of course if a competitor or team was found on the roads, they would be excluded from the event per the rules.

See you in the Sno,
Mike

"Practicing"

Remember Mike, maybe those seen "practicing" are not "us, competitors", but rather "wannabes" (who may have decals and lights on their cars). To a local newspaper, this may get reported as practicing for the event. This only re-inforces why there may be a hesitancy on the part of some organizers to release route information early <rant semi-off>.

press on,

Jimmy,

We, at Rally New York events conducted twice a year over different
routes, almost never have any serious problems of the type described
above and we publish the route months before the event and allow
reconnaissance.

This afternoon, we scheduled a big coordination meeting for our
next event that will take place on April 7 - 8. The meeting was
called by the Town Supervisor and will include a Town Councilman,
the Mayor, Chamber of Commerce representatives, the CEO of Sullivan
County Visitors Association, the Police, the Fire Chief, the local
press and the local radio station. The main item on the agenda is
to discuss how we would involve local residents in promoting,
running and marshaling the event. At the risk of being again accused
of "bashing" somebody, I want to say the following:

An event keeps the route secret and there are "problems". If that
happens, perhaps there are problems elsewere: In securing support,
acceptance and involvement of the community (both the government
and the residents) that should be made aware of and appreciate both
the economic benefits to the community generated by the event and
the sporting value of the event.

RE: "Practicing"

Ivan:

Just FYI -- we have great community support, including that of the Local Businesses, Local Newspaper, Sheriff's Department, and Ambulance Service.

There are a few residents that don't fully understand the benefit to the community, or just don't want to share their road...

We don't know - at least today, if the events were directly related to our event or not. What we do know is that they are percieved to be related. Because perception is reality, we as organizers need to be pro-active about ensuring our once a year event has a positive impact and no negative shadows.

Regards,
Mike

So what was the real story, was any competitor found to have been on the roads? If so where they excluded/disqualified? If not was an extra effort made to seperate the event from the story?
