I heard a rumor that some rallies forbid trailers in service areas.

I suspect this would include service trailers like mine (enclosed trailer, combined transporter & service vehicle).

Is there truth to this rumor?

We've only had to leave our trailer behind on a couple of occassions.

With the factory teams having some fairly large trucks nowadays, a trailer/truck combo is not that much bigger.

Most organizers do a good job of providing a service area with enough space. If in doubt about rules at a specific event, ask BEFORE you get there, so that you can transfer tools/spares to the tow vehicle.

Cheers! John

Just to add to what John said, the only event that we did last year that we were not allowed to take our trailer was Rallye Defi Ste-Agathe. There were significant space issues at the Mecaglisse stages, so we just used a Ford F250 loaded with our gear to set up service.

Maine Forest has some space issues at Wilson Mills DOT lot, but you certainly aren't restricted from TRYING to get a trailer parked there. We've done it before ;-)

Speaking as an organizer, it is hard to find adequate service areas that will be optimal for everybody, all the time.

Sometimes a smaller area will work best for the overall flow of the rally, and if that's the case it just may not be possible to allow teams the space for both a service rig and a trailer.

Trust me, we would love to provide that much space for all teams all the time, but sometimes it just does not work that way.

Make sure you check the supplemental regulations for any event you attend and note such service restrictions.
