Rally live is showing the Pat finished SS1 in 10th, but did not finish SS2. The stage is shown as complete with no listing of Pat.

Richard confirmed with Mechanical DNF on stage 2.

If it's the transmission again and that was my car, there would be a HUGE fire taking place right now.

The Subaru Mechanicals really need a close look.

It its really hard to even consided a 2002 or newer subie given the $$$$ transmission and mechanical expenses are just going to kill any reasonable budget.

The jury is still out on the new US spec STi 6 speed, but I have little faith and I like Subarus.

Maybe Subaru USA should campaign a press USA spec STi, just to prove (or disprove) they can build a tranny. Ofcourse they could always put me in the seat -- you know you'd get the full poop from me.

Another disappointment for Pat.

I think this is getting ridiculous. I mean he has DNF'd how many events so far this year due to the transmission? I feel sorry for Pat and the whole team, I can't imagine what they must feel like.

The left front ball joint came un done ... 8 K form the end of the stage. Transmission was doing fine.
You guys have no idea what ROUGH is until you drive these roads! most of the teams were replacing tie rod ends as regular maitenence!

Jeez - it was frustrating for us to go to BC and lose a balljoint (steering knuckle) early in the rally - I can't imagine how frustrating it is to go to Cyprus to lose it.

Keith - pass on consolations from all of us at home.

Jeez... Really sorry and dissapointed. Just out of curiosity, why does Tom McGeer's gearbox seem to fare so much better than Pat's?

Whole different bucket of sprockets, and not GpN homologated. But he lost parts of it at Charlevoix and Quebec, in both cases probably affecting his result.

'Course, I did 12 rallies last year on the stock Mitsubishi RS gearbox. Second gear syncro is getting a little graunchy, but funnily enough it's fine on stage.

Just in case you were looking at buying a car...

I have 750 stage miles on my stock EVO trans. and it's just fine. Change the fluid after every rally and that's it.

hi guys

since for once I am not in a car I have time to post here

1) there is a big difference between a) a broken ball joint, and b) one which the nut came off. Ours was the latter (b). The first (a) comes from hitting something, which we didn't. I was able to put a lug nut on the balljoint and drive out, but max late. It was pretty hard to put a glowing red hot (yes, glowing) disc and caliper assmebly back into the a-arm. I got some nice burns. The driveshaft also came out because of the problem, but so it took time to put that back in as well.

2) Tom's gearbox is a H pattern Group A gearbox.

3) so far everyone speculating about this and that about my gearboxes doesn't know the whole story, and wish people would stop talking about stuff which they dont know. the 6 speed synchro gearbox is bullet proof. You can reoply to this and talk crap about what you dont know, but I know, and they are bulletproof. I have no hesitation driving lots of rallies on it as far as wear and tear goes. I already have (several last year, and nice fast time on ss5 at PFR with it).

4) what I have been running is homologated dogboxes. The reason I do it is because you gain over 1 sec/km using dogboxes. The problem is, there are only 2 current worldwide sources (yes, only 2) for homologated dogboxes for my car (because it is relatively new). One manufacturer is famous for known problems and phased out this design in April in favour of a newer "bulletproof" design. The other manufacturer has been working on small teething problems (hee hee) but the basic design is fairly solid. I have been going back and forth with both to help develop the boxes, and this problem hasn't just affected me but a lot of their other customers. A third manufacturer will be releasing a product in about 2 weeks. So you can see it is a situation of help to make it better or make up our own and then go through the whole process again.

5) yah I am frustrated but what can I do but keep trying.

Yes Pat, thanks for the direct info!! I'd been wondering about the tranny issue myself but it's very interesting to hear about the whole dogbox development. Good luck with both that and the rest of the season!!
