How to build a rally car from a Subaru without spending more than you need to.
100 pages of text and pictures.
Skid plate sizes and spring rates.
Lots of proven ways to make your car last and be fast enough.
A good place to start before painting yourself into a corner with the wrong purchases.

For your newbies... worth the money. You'll save 10 times the price just by doing the right things. Randy has driven, raced, and WON way more rallies than most of you will ever race in, and on a budget more creatively applied than many of you will ever get to. Do it. Buy it. Now. :)

When was the last time this thing was updated? never?
What's there to update? A GC is a GD is a GC is a GD when you throw out the expensive stuff like turbos, DCCD, 6 speeds, aluminium control arms, etc. Same objective as existed in the sport 10 years ago. Have fun driving down dirt roads, inexpensively. My $.02. YMMV.

That looks like a pretty good price drop, I might finally have to buy it.
I didn't want to compete against myself so since I'm not racing against you guys, its cheaper.

Kevin, I haven't found anything cheaper.
Like Don said, the car is the same, the parts and prep are the same, just new/different racers looking for a way into the sport.
Back away from the Sparco Catalog... send your money to Anders for entries not to England for bling.

Back to Kevin's complaint. It isn't as if I never tried anything. Here are two examples;
Moving the engine and transmission back 3/4" in the body.
Cost? A lot of time and effort, $0.
Stage time difference? 00:00.1/mile maybe.
I found it helped in ice racing but not enough I'd do it again.
Cutting the gas tank in half and moving the battery to that new space.
Cost? $0.
Stage time difference? 00:01/mile maybe.
Increased anxiety over having enough gas? +1000%
Confusing tech guys. +100.
Bottom line: I wouldn't add these to the manual because the time difference
is almost imperceptible and the effort was way too much for the payback.
The idea is to get cars on stage as easily and cheaply as possible.
I wanted to see if the weight, time and effort of seam welding a Subaru
could be skipped without causing problems down the bumpy road.
I did it so you wouldn't have to.

THANKS!
Good luck with your project.
Be sure to cut the 2wd transmission mount out before you assemble it.
Doing it with the engine and trans in is a royal pain.

I've done 22 rallies in a GC impreza and still found some clever solutions to a few problems i've been having in his manual.

like the cool idea of ******* * *** **** ** **** ****** .. that would have saved me $75 by just in materials ...

and the cool idea of using **** ******* **** .. I plan to implement 2 or 3 changes to how I've been doing things . and for the most part I've done pretty well at keeping my budget low.

.. I would definitely love to see failed experiments that you've tried. or "not worth the effort" like moving the motor + trans, and moving a battery to where your gas tank was (or 1/2 of it) even if its a really short , bullet point format.

oh ya i still need to pay pal you..

I'll weigh in with full support for Randy's innovation and intelligence, especially wrt budget. He's been a giant-killer with no dough in a GC. And he's also got like 35 years of general racing skullduggery experience. Should be the model for anyone getting into AWD.

Mention that you found this on the new Special Stage and the Manual is $50 (for a limited time).
And Don is right about the email change.
