How's about the co-driver for that number 6 Hyundai? I don't know if that is a story that I've missed, or something, but it seems pretty cool.

And, I don't mean ungreatful in any way (it's nice that PPIHC is kinda/sorta a part of the series) but would it have been too much trouble for the SCCA to throw a bone to one or two of the 2wd guys? EVO's and WRX's are cool, but they're not nearly as fun to watch rally as high horsepower Mustangs and RX-7's.

It is annoying to see all MitSubai's isn't it? It looks like in order to rally these are the only legal cars-hardly represents the total of Rally people/classes.
I was extremely impressed with Paul C. speed on the mountain last year-I would guess the win to be between the Hyundai's judging from the drivers speed and short course.
Good luck to all!!!

Yeah, it is annoying. Don't get me wrong, I love those cars. A little variety wouldn't hurt, though. Plus, if they're going to keep running the Hill with this "invite only" format, it could serve as a nice "reward" for some of the harder working, better dedicated 2wd teams.

Just a couple 2wd cars would have been cool, that's all.

From my understanding this year is only on trial basis.
If you read the Pikes Peak press releases on their site,
they hope to have arround 80 rally cars on the hill
in 2003, in one format or another.

The PPIHC website indicates times for the SCCA cars to practice, but the info in Fastrack indicated that their was no "at-speed" practicing allowed. Just permission to recce in non-rally cars during normal tourist hours.

With drivers not getting a test run, then experience on the hill becomes very important. I'd say Millen and Choinere have the edge.

all the competitor bulletins are published on the SCCA.org site.
The SCCA clases will get 1 high speed practice run up the hill on friday am (it will be broken up) 1/2 up to Glen Cove and then 30 mins later Glen Cove to Sumit.

SCCA classes get to recce the road during regular hours open to all traffic up the mountain, in regular (non comtetition) car, driving the speed limit.

The one high speed run was due to the PPIHS organizer, as he was concerned for our safety, most non rally people can't understand how
we can drive at speed on roads we have not practiced on.

Hope everything goes well for the SCCA group, and that feedback from competitors and organizers will varant bigger involvement next year.

If you want to be nitpicky, John Elkin is co-driving for Lon.
