It might just reach the largest single TV audience possible this year!

http://ppihc.com/index.php?module=announce&ANN_id=39&ANN_user_op=view

If I remember right J.B. Nidday said that any Rally-America cars could still run the event, or anyone with an elligible car can run in the PPIHC classes...

Just thorught there might be some interest by some teams in reaching an audience between 2-7 million TV Viewers.....

Has anyone talked to PP organizers? My email to them bounced. Will there be a rally-class based off the old RA class? Will there ever be codrivers again?

There are classes where co-drivers are permitted. The Pikes Peak Open winning team had a co-driver.

I'll see about getting some e-mail addresses if people are interested, although I believe that it was decided that PPIHC would create or use RallyAmerica classes (they need the entrants, so I am sure they would figure out something).

If there is a team with a car made in the last ten years I would recommend Pikes Peak Open though. Take out the restrictors and run, more prize money and "higher profile" competition as well....

Also available is virtual codriver which was in Andrew Hawkeswood's Unlimited class red Evo last year. Arne Johansson (Mr. Jemba/Coralba) was there supporting it. Save 150 lbs.

Car is turbo 2wd. Maybe when they pave the entire road.

Hmm, lets see. There will be a half hour on Jesse James, or whatever talentless celebrity decides to run. Then they'll be a half hour on the two Semi Trucks that bother to pound up the hill, so how much does that leave for the rest of us....?

Oh God... not again with the TV junk. If you want exposure put rally in a stadium, or run a rally car as a pace car for the Indy 500.

TV, TV, TV.... what is it worth for rally in the U.S.? NOTHING!
What does it cost the average rallyist? EVERYTHING!

Guess what Jens?

This has nothing to do with a rally series, doesn't even have anything to do with rallying other than the cars may in fact be similiar. Case in point RallyAmerica dropped it from its schedule because it wasn't rally like enough.

This is a stand alone event, get off your damn band wagon, it passed this stop about 15 years ago....

Got to love the abuse sometimes...

Where else do you show off a racing big rig though The Mid-America Trucking Show? The Las Vegas Truck Show? The Great American Truck Show? SEMA? The Truck Show Latino? A "big deal" rodeo?

I don't care if anyone shows up or not, I'll still be on the mountain par taking in the experience, I'll be sure to stop by and say hello to those that show up....

I looked on the PPIHC web site the other day, and didn't see much in the way of rally class information. I hadn't planned on doing the event this year, but since I can see the mountain every morning from my hotel room window, it is getting tempting...

Pike's Peak Open Class would be the class for a rally competitor. A few requirements exist that weren't required for Rally America/SCCA classes.
Some off the top of my head.
10 model years or newer
Plumbed in 5 lb. minimum fire systems
Co-driver is optional (I was the only one out of three teams last year)
No restrictor required
All belts, SFI and FIA are three year expiration
Steering locks must be removed
Steering wheel has to have a piece of padding in center
Magnaflux certification must be performed on all suspension parts (we can provide that, as can a few place in Co Springs)
Dual master cylinder brake systems are required
Eye protection is required. Brian always pulled his sunglasses off after the first of second corner generally.
Fuel cells are required.

I'm sure an interested competitor could talk with Phil Layton about potentially having a Rally Car class based off NASA or Rally America rules if they wanted, or about exemption from some requirements, such as the dual masters, for more street like rally cars if they were really interested.
