Here's an interesting snippet from http://www.elkcapital.net/trailreport/ (bold emphasis is my addition)

"Special note to snow mobilers!
See Note Below:

On Friday & Saturday, Jan. 24th & 25th The Sno*Drift Rally will be held here in the Atlanta, Lewiston and Hillman area back-roads.
PLEASE ACKNOWLEDGE ANY SIGNS that a trail or road has been blocked. These cars exceed 1,000 miles and hour and would send you and the snowmobile into the next world should you be hit.
We don't want that.
Instead of crossing or riding on a designated Rally stage track, just sit tight and enjoy the unexpected show!!!!"

1,000 miles an hour!!! That sounds more like Gronholm and the Peugeot guys than anything we have over here! ;-)

Mike:

I assume that the decimal point has floated around a bit. I do have an interesting story involving a rally car, a snowmobile and 100 mph. However, I dare not tell it here. It is definitely one of those tales that are told when a bunch of old rally farts get together and drink beer.

Let's just say it starts with "your driving flat out on a stage on the Canadian Winter Rally and a snomobile pulls out onto the stage in front of you and thinks that he can outrun the rally car!".

I'm sure I heard something about Taisto and snowmobiles on the Winter, but I don't know many details except that the snowmobiles were not the fastest vehicles...

Aww man... Didn't I see mention of pictures on good ol' rally-l at scifi squawk of your peugeot? Here I was hoping you'd be showing up at LSPR in it.

Adrian:

Taisto might have had his own adventure with snowmobiles, but Walter and I had the incident in this thread. Snowmobiles are bloody fast, they just don't corner as well as rally cars on full studs! If you are at Perce-Neige, I will tell you the rest.
