Freestyle Motorcycle Champion Travis Pastrana to Compete in
2004 Subaru Rim of the World Rally Presented by Autosport Engineering

Round Three of the 2004 SCCA ProRally Championship Sees Both New and Familiar Rallyists Take on the Challenge of the ?Rim?

LANCASTER, Calif. (April 7, 2004) - - The 2004 season of the SCCA ProRally Championship has been touted by many as the ?Year of the Privateer?, with large factory teams withdrawing their entries allowing medium sized sponsors and competitive privateers an opportunity at the championship title. The 21st annual Subaru Rim of the World Rally serves as round three of the ProRally title hunt and takes place May 7 and 8, 2004 in the unrelenting hills of Southern California. Rally veterans and newbies alike return to face the rugged, attrition filled event, including Three-Time X-Games Gold Medalist and Freestyle SuperCross winner Travis Pastrana in a Vermont SportsCar Subaru WRX.

?Rim of the World is excited to see many new faces join the veterans of this historic Southern California event, and we?re confident this year?s competition will be aggressive and more evenly matched,? said Ray Hocker, chairman of the 2004 Subaru Rim of the World Rally presented by Autosport Engineering. ?While new to the Rim, racing celebrities like Travis Pastrana bring a new level of skill to the competitive field, and adds tremendous visibility to the sport of Rally in North America. We welcome Travis and all our competitors and wish them a great event.?

While Pastrana is known globally for his two wheel dominance in the X-Games and AMA SuperCross, he is no stranger to four wheel competition. He recently was invited to the Michelin Race of Champions event in the Canary Islands where he competed with Team USA against the best drivers from around the globe. In addition, Pastrana has privately tested with some of the worlds great motorsports powerhouses, including Subaru?s World Rally Team in the UK.

Pastrana joins other faces familiar to the rally community, both to the Rim of the World as well as SCCA ProRally, including former Subaru Rally Team USA driver Ramana Lagemann. Irish rally veteran Seamus Burke returns for another rally season along with recent WRC Corona Rally Mexico competitor Wyeth Gubelman and former Canadian National Rally Champion Patrick Richard. Mark Nelson looks to mirror his performance that won him first place at the 2002 Ramada Express Hotel Casino International Rally, while local California Rally Series favorite Brian Hudson returns for another Rim of the World with his son Nick co-driving. To date, more than 78 of the total 80 entry cap have been confirmed for next months? competition, making it one of the largest and most highly anticipated rally events in North America.

The 2004 Subaru Rim of the World Rally will be held on May 7~8, 2004 in the Lancaster/Palmdale region of Southern California, situated 40 minutes north of Los Angeles. Commonly referred to as ?The Rim?, the rally race is round three of the 2004 SCCA ProRally Championship. Competitors will face the treacherous terrain and rutted fire roads in the hills of California?s Angeles National Forest. The televised 2003 event saw over 80 entries undertake the challenges of ?The Rim? and the 2004 rally promises to deliver even greater competition and gravel pounding excitement. More information and admission ticket details on the rally can be found at the official website at www.rimoftheworldrally.com.
