OFFICIAL 2004 EASTERN STATES RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP
SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED

Knoxville, TN ? The 2004 schedule for the Eastern States Rally Championship was officially announced today. Combining both established and new events, the 2004 ESRC will give teams the opportunity to compete in a meaningful rally championship without having to travel west of the Mississippi.

The championship series kicks off in February in Cheraw, South Carolina with the Sandhills Sandblast running on its traditional date. This rally is held in the popular Sandhills State Forest, home of the Southern Dog Trials. The show dogs step aside for ralliest to enjoy the wide sandy roads, tall pine trees, and the southern hospitality of Cheraw.

Following the established Sandblast in March is a new event, Rally Tennessee. Using some of the same roads as the acclaimed FIA Cherokee Trails International Rally, Rally Tennessee will be headquartered in Cleveland, Tennessee and will use roads near the historic gold, silver, and copper mining town of Copperhill and the Olympic whitewater capital of Ducktown.

In April, ralliest travel to Monticello, New York. Another established event, Rally New York will offer competitors one of the most challenging events in the series with a combination of tarmac and loose surface stages.

May boasts the acclaimed FIA, USAC, and NASA Rally Sport sanctioned Cherokee Trails International Rally. Headquartered in the City of Cleveland, Tennessee, the small town with a big city heart, this rally will be supported in part by students of Bradley County High School who have adopted this event as part of their special projects curriculum.

In June, another new event, Rally Alabama will give ralliest the opportunity to compete on the ever-changing dirt, clay, sand, and gravel roads of the Talladega National Forest on a warm southern night.

Rally legend John Buffum and his crew will have you echoing its unofficial mantra "We always enjoy ourselves? as ralliest head north to Rumford, Maine for one of the premier events in U.S. rallying, the Maine Forest Rally.

The Championship finale will take place at Rally West Virginia in a Double Header Labor Day Rally Bash in September. Receiving unprecedented support from the State of West Virginia, this event will welcome competitors to the mountain resort of Snowshoe, West Virginia. The Rally West Virginia Labor Day Rally Bash festivities will include year end awards for competitors, rally officials, marshals and staff.

The Eastern States Rally Championship will recognize best overall driver and co-driver, specific class winners, rookie driver and co-driver, and for the first time in U.S. rallying a privateer Team Cup.

Championship Coordinator Dr. Kendall Russell of Rally Promotions, LLC, is enthusiastic about the series stating: ?This is the first time in the history of rally in the eastern United States that competitors have had the opportunity to compete in such an exciting and diverse series. We are looking forward to 2004 and have long-term plans for the series for 2005 and beyond!"

John K. Shirley, President of Rally Promotions followed, ?The ESRC represents what the competitors want in U.S. rallying: a meaningful, competitive championship without the cost of having to travel nationally. The roads in the Championship represent some of the best in the world.?

Eric,

Maine is an SCCA sanctioned event.

After discussions with Sue Robinson at Ramada and over the last couple of weeks, we have been able to agree that NASA Rally Sport license holders will only be required to buy an SCCA membership to participate at the Maine Club Rally.

Thanks John. Will any of the other events have notes available? I am interested in possibly running an event or two, since they are close enough and I ain't going for a championship anywhere this year.

>Just wondering..

Still a go right now, just not part of the Championship (had to give the Northeast folks something closer to home).

Congratulations!

To all of you that have worked so hard putting this championship together, we offer our congratulations. This is a good day for the sport. We've just completed our first year of the Western States Championship and it turned our really well for all concerned. We know your events will all benefit from the great competition in your regional championship. From all of us on the "left coast", best of luck to all the competitors and organizers. Have a great season!

RE: Congratulations!

Since I live in memphis, this is close enough to maybe go to all of the more southern ones. Hmmm...coolness. I wonder if some decent teams will consider showing up?
