Since I wasn't in a hurry it took about 10 months of on and off picking at pieces of it, to get to where it is now. I started with a $400 car that didn't run, bad fuel pump and what turned into a bad engine as well. Did all the rear suspension (which included the half cage)and custom gas tank dropped down where the spare tire use to sit, then the front suspension, finally the rebuilt engine installed.

Whoa, a double rainbow... all the way!

This thread is amazing. I just discovered it and devoured my lunch really quickly as the anticipation for the next cool pictures kept building.

Very nic build, Jon! Can't wait to see it on the stages!

It will only show up running recce or possibly Course Opennig or Closing car, it's not rally legal for now. Something about missing body work/bumpers that certain people don't like... LOL Plus, right now it only has a cage from the main hoop on back, but that section is legal, would just have to add the front cage sections.

Do you have part numbers or a catalog for the ball joint and heims? I haven't found any reasonably priced "universals", but I haven't looked very hard either... have a couple project ideas that one like that would be useful for!

I think projects like this are just flat out awesome. I've been flirting with the idea for a long time.

Since I installed a TerraPhone intercom, spare for my rally car, figured I should have some transit headsets. Here at Roodwerks, my moto is, Why buy when you can build. I had several spare open face headsets lying around, but now I use a closed face helmet. I bought a couple of industrial Peltor earmuffs, did some creative drilling and grommetting and now I have what I need/wanted.

Finally got to finishing off the front end body work, to make it look finished off, not like a junk yard dog. A couple of pic of the front nose piece I fabricated. The metal work is about 98-99% done. This weekend it will get a light coat of body filler and heavy coats of paint... (making even small, simple body panels from scratch SUCKS!!!)

It's been a while since I updated this thread. Since last I posted: I finished the nose sheet metal, body worked it a bit and painted it white. I then ran the car as Course Closing for Prescott Rally, blowing out one strut top, but drove back to the hotel on it, thinking it was a bent strut. I then installed Bilstein inverted struts, could only fit 30mm units from a Camry, huge thanks to Bret at Bilstein for helping find and custom valve these for me. I used Rav4 strut tops, 1/3 the cost and twice the strength of the Celica's oem ones. A quick run up to Seed 9 for more show and tell, and give Bret a test ride down a powerline road (goat trail). The struts worked amazing. Then this past weekend I did a weld in / bolt on strut tower bar, by capping the tower and welding the bar brackets to the new caps. The plan is to tie it into the top of the firewall too.

We'll be back at Prescott this year, running as the 999 car again. If you're in the area, stop by, check out the latest work, say hi...

Solid build. How much bump/droop travel do you have with the new suspension setups?

Total travel is about 8" front, 9" rear. I don't remember the droop to bump numbers off hand, but I could measure it the next time I've got the jack under it.
