I'm even more surprised that you'd think anyone over here could afford him. On a (slightly) related note, don't think that just because he's had the BIG RIDE, he's any better than any number of U.S. co-drivers. I've seen them all fall behind in their notes, and they get to practice in advance.

"Uhh...hello? Mr. Grist, as I understand you are without employment at the moment. I would like to offer you the chance codrive for me. This is my first race, and I can not pay you, as a matter of fact I need you to pay half the entry fees and food/lodging."

How could he refuse?

Here's Colin, whose probably wrecked on 50% of his events. Nicky gets canned after a "misheard" pacenote. One, yes one, other screw-up (as oppossed to Colin's numerous ones) where they get into a control at the wrong time.

Nicky deserves better. I hope Speedvision keeps him on for color commentary. And if you don't think Nicky would come over, I'll bet he would do it in a heartbeat for very little money. Just look at the other ex-pats who have come over, including Dhiggins, Mhiggins and Lovell as drivers. I think he would enjoy competing in the U.S., and if you look at his co-driving history at www.nickygrist.com, would not think himself above it.

As to his preparation, it is detailed at his website. As a co-driver, I wish I had all the time to do that.

Anyhow, as a betting man, I think that we will find Nicky back in Colin's left seat sometime in the next year.

Got to agree with Wilson on this. The problem, as far as I can tell from Colin's perspective, is he blames Nicky for several other incidents, like being late to the road position meeting thing in Australia last year. I am not saying I think that, but I got the impression that Colin does. I would imagine someone higer up at Ford would also be keeping track of that stuff too.

As for Colin, yeah he is great, but there is a reason Tommi has one less WRC wins and three more WRC titles, and Marcus has half the wins and two WRC titles. I dont think any of that can be laid on Nicky's shoulders.

How cool would that be though to run Cherokee Trails, or any of the CNAR rallies and to have Nicky as your navvie? I'd like to see someone do it. Maybe Buffum, or Millen (the elder) could bring him over for a one-off ride?

Acually, Nicky and Colin haven't been "getting along" for a while it seems. They are both friends, but like any relationship, sometimes things don't work out. You can even see the tension in the cockpit all the way back to last year.

I've been talking with my friend in England who sponsors both Nicky and Colin, and it sounds like they are done...I don't think you'll see Nicky back beside Colin next year (although I originally thought we would).

Is Makinen's co-driver back after his back injury? Maybe Nicky should hop in with him!
