Steve Johnson told us at the LSPR post-event banquet that an announcement of a new SCCA ProRally sponsor will be made at the SEMA show. The sponsor will have a brand name recognition on the level of McDonalds.

Any ideas? Rumors? Guesses?

Edit: He did drop a hint about the company being involved in consumer retail.

I've heard that, in spite of 2 years negotiation, it will DEFINITELY NOT be Hot Wheels/Mattel. Given other turnabouts of recent weeks/months/years, that may mean just the opposite. However, I tend to believe this, as for the last 18 months, we've been "within two weeks of an announcement" with Mattel. If they haven't done the deal by now, I doubt it will be done.

(Not to be confused with any statement by anyone who is actually in a position to know for real).

So with this little tid-bit do people have a right to be skeptical about the SCCA....IF there is no announcement made at SEMA?

Not that Hot Wheels was mentioned 2 or 3 years ago when the Hyundai P-car had Hot Wheels on the side.....

You know just like the spec. class Ford Focus that keeps resurfacing every 6 months or so. You know, the ones that Rousch was preparing here in Detroit and all was going to be happy and glorious....or something.

Could it be DEWALT
They were all over the WRC event on TV last night !
It was nice to see US companies supporting rallies in other countries.

Phooey! They were supporting the TELECAST...and maybe only your local cable outlet. The RALLY didn't make a nickel from those spots.
They may even have bought blind spots from Speed, who placed them wherever they were needed.

At least they recognize motorsport fans as a target audience.

1998 - Spitzner hired.
1999 - Last year for Michelin (contract inked pre-Spitzner)
2000 - nothing (rumors and promises of sponsorship)
2001 - nothing (rumors and promises of sponsorship)
2002 - nothing (rumors and promises of sponsorship)
2003 - nothing (rumors and promises of sponsorship)
2003 - End of year announcement Spitzner is leaving (quit or fired?)
2003 - rumors of sponsorship for 2004

Anyone taking bets?
