Eyes On Design:

I need some help from fellow forum members:

Briefly, the grounds of the Ford estate in suburban Detroit this year, will present the 17th annual Eyes On Design car show, June 27th, 2004. This year, the featured design theme is racing cars, and I have volunteered to help locate significant Rally cars with an aesthetic and emotional presence, in the Rally category as well as the Open wheel/Indy category. I would like to take this opportunity to request any forum visitors to assist in helping me locate some specific cars, their owners, historic or vintage clubs with contacts, or even offer suggestions for vehicles that either stand out for their beauty of design, or were significantly interesting enough that they would be appreciated from a design and aesthetic perspective. (No Metro VR6 )

I have listed a sample of the cars that would possibly meet the show?s criteria.

RS200
Saab 96
Original Audi Quattro
Lancia Stratos
Lancia Fulvia
Escort Mk1
Renault Alpine A110
Ranault Alpine A310
Porsche 959 Paris-Dakar
Peugeot 205 16T
Big Healy 6
Mini Cooper
Citroen DS

This is an exciting project that I know many of you passionate participants and fans may be able to help with. Please private message, email or preferably respond on this forum to share the information to help make Rally car category one of the most exciting at this charity event.

Please visit www.eyeson.org for specific information.

Thank you

Walt Kammer has a beautiful A110 (and a 510SSS). Lives in upstate NY.

A RHD 1966 Mini that looked good competed at Tall Pines. From Granville, OH.

Four Star in Toronto has an Escort Cosworth, and Martin Donnelly also in Toronto has one in Ford colours (ex-american flag car out of California).

Buffum in Burlington, VT and Bruno Kreibech in NY City both have proper early Quattros. Four Star has a later style coupe with The Right Bits.

Someone in CT or something has two or three RS200s that he wants quite a lot of money for.

Steve if you can post this meesage on [email protected] , these guys are a Vintage dirt and Indy car group. A couple of the people on the forums have even competed at Indy in the 50's and 60's. They also own Vintage cars as well.

Talk to John Shirley. He's got a rally prepped TR-7 V8 or TR-8, I don't know which though. You can reach him through www.nasarallysport.com.

>Is any transport assistance available?

Glenn, this event is a charitible event with proceeds going to the Detroit Institute of Opthomology, and unfortunately there is not a tow fund available.

But, as one member suggested, why don't we make Connie Kalitta the grand marshal, and arrange one of his JIT cargo planes to make a run to the west coast for us???

Now that I am back in the office, if anyone can please help with locating and providing contacts for classic rally machines, please let me know through this forum, private mail or email.

Thanks, Steve Nowicki

I have a 66 Citroen ID/DS19 with functional spheres and accumulateur so the suspension works the way it is supposed to however it's not a rally car and if I try to put a cage in it my wife would kill me using a frog leg or truffles.

How about Larry Vollum in Portland, OR. He's got a whole fleet of Group B cars. He brings them out to the rallycrosses once in a while and he's always got something on display at the Parc Expose of the Oregon Trail Rally. He's had his RS200 and I believe his Lancia Delta S4 out there in years past. Even rarer than the RS200, he's got an Escort RS1800T!(The ill-fated precursor to the RS200.) Problem would be transporting, that's kind of far away, but who knows? Paul Eklund knows him. Hey Pablo, give him a shout!

Dave, or anyone else.
Please send me the contact information for Larry Vollum, and I will contact him directly.

Any links to images of his cars online? Are they in original graphic trim?

Thanks, things are heating up and need to get invitations out soon!!!
Steve.

PS, and Mike, that Mini would be perfect!

If I recall correctly, the Mini is a later model one than that (not a BMW), and has the Mk2 or 3 grille and taillights. Still a very relevant car, I would think. Justin Pritchard is the owner. He is a quick FF driver if memory serves.
