Round 3 of the Western Canadian Rally Championship

End of early registration: Wednesday, June 9, 2004

Rallying returns to British Columbia again this June at the Mountain Trials Rally, round three of the 2004 Western Canadian Rally Championship (WCRC). This year's event promises more of the stunning Merritt-area roads and scenery, not to mention the friendly Nicola Valley hospitality. Meanwhile, rally organizers have upped the ante for competitors, with a committment to hosting a true reconnaissance (or recce) type of event.

In the coming weeks, organizers of the Mountain Trials Rally will be putting the finishing touches on their event and rally teams will be preparing their vehicles in the chase for class and overall championship points.

The 2004 WCRC championship has entered its stride as the third round approaches, with two events down and two different winners now in the record books. Who will be there to challenge the new crop of talented drivers emerging from the West? Come and find out if it will be you this June 19th!

This event is sanctioned by the Canadian Association of Rallysport (CARS), is part of the Western Canadian Rally Championship and may be counted towards the SCCA NORPAC Championship as out-of-division points.

Entry List
The entry list is starting to build, with more arriving in the next few days as we near the early entry deadline. Teams of competitors are expected to come from across BC, Alberta, Washington and Oregon.

The Mountain Trials Rally was once a fixture on the Canadian national calendar during the 70?s and 80?s. It was also the first stage rally event revived back in 2000 when the West Coast Rally Association put rallying back on the map in BC.

After several years in the Cache Creek area the event moved to Merritt, just 2.5 hours east of Vancouver and less than 5 hours from Seattle. Since that time, the picturesque setting of the Nicola Valley has won the hearts of both fans and competitors alike, helping the rally achieve instant success.

The current team of organizers is dedicated to making their rallies some of the best in western North America. In a few short years, the Mountain Trials Rally has re-established itself as a favourite amongst both competitors and fans. This year, organizers are expecting a strong field of entries from across western Canada and the northwestern USA to compete in the rally.

Features & Benefits
The smoothest and best of the Merritt area roads, central in-town service and generous service breaks.

New this year:
Organizers will allow competitors to pre-run the course at designated times on reconnaissance (or recce). In order to help competitors prepare for and benefit from this added feature, there will be a workshop on pace notes and recce hosted by Patrick Richard.

Please note:
Recce will not be mandatory. The WCRA standard ?Detailed Route Book? style instructions will be available to all competitors, and will be provided before recce in case you wish to use it as a framework.

All in all, Moutain Trials 2004 should be an awesome event!

- Convenient in-town Service Area
- Relaxed schedule including a lunch break
- Compact route with smooth roads
- Recce with a how-to workshop beforehand
- 100 Km Special Stage Distance, 300 Km Total Distance

Since the official sups only arrived in my mailbox yesterday (June 7th) and early entries must be received tomorrow (June 9th) is there going to be an extension given on early entries?

Yours must have been on the extra-slow mule train over the rockies - gotta love snail mail sometimes.

As usual, we will be reasonable with the cutoffs, to account for the vagaries of Canada Post, but remember that all of this info, regs, dates, forms etc, have been on rallybc.com for almost three weeks now, and posted to SpecialStage on May 21, so there really should not have been any surprise on the early entry deadline.

Well, of course it's me, Bill. ????
But I didn't get sups through direct email, though...... ????

I still like to get the sups in the mail, though, especially since everybody's website says "in case of discrepancy, the paper copy prevails".
