What are the stages like ?
- Compare/contrast to specific US stages ?
- Do they all have similar character ?
- Dust and/or dust clearing winds ?
- Fog ?
- Sand, loose gravel, clay, or just good solid dirt surface ?
- Imbedded rock ?
- Rocks in the brush / ditches ?
- Trees close in / far out ?
- Stumps close in ?
- Narrow and/or slick bridges ?
- High speed jumps and/or sharp jumps ?
- Waterbars ? (just kiddin')

How bout the weather ?
- Hot ? Humid/Muggy like Maine ?
- Rain ? Should I expect the possibility of massive downpour/MUD ?

Mosquitos like Minnesota (previous years) ?

Good beer ?

:+

Any and all information would be greatly appreciated !!!

Pretty much for the stuff on saterday...

> - Dust and/or dust clearing winds ?

Yes and Hopefully...

> - Sand, loose gravel, clay, or just good solid dirt surface

Mix of good gravel and loose gravel...no real sandy bits and definitly no STPRish clay...

> - Imbedded rock ?

Oh Ya..

> - Rocks in the brush / ditches ?

OHH YEAH!

> - Trees close in / far out ?

A little from column A a little from Column B

> - Stumps close in ?

Not really but see comment about rocks..

> - Narrow and/or slick bridges ?

YEP! couple tricky ones...remind me to tell you the story.

> - High speed jumps and/or sharp jumps ?

A Couple but the Escort flys really well so don't worry...

>How bout the weather ?

With Luck it'll be nice fall weather...warm and dry...

>Mosquitos like Minnesota (previous years) ?

Shouldn't be too bad this time of year...besides the toluene in the race gas will kill em.

>Good beer ?

Always! And Poutine!

Stop Asking so may questions, you're scaring Martin!

The long stages on Saturday are somewhat like Maine. The Friday stuff seems to be different every year. Surface is good gravel on a well-packed base. Some rockadillos, but not a lot. Can be very dusty.

Yes

Not STPR close, but fairly close in places.

No

A couple

I don't remember any, but I've only done the event in a P car.

Can be hot, could be nice cool fall weather. Anything from a hot Maine to weather like we just had at Ojibwe would be typical.

Never seen it in the wet...

>Mosquitos like Minnesota (previous years) ?

Shouldn't be too many.

Defi stages are much like Maine Forest, only transplanted into a foreign country.

Very very varied character

Some fast & open (pace notes from last year simply read "SPANK 2k" on a couple stages)

Some twisty & narrow, brush/branches close on both sides (very busy reading for co-pilotes, lousy visibility for pilotes)

Unrelentingly technical (esp Lac Gagnon)

Dusty

Hot sweaty & thirsty (i.e., bring yer cool suit)

Sandy/gravely

Trees set fairly well back (at least most of the time!)

Fair bit of tarmac on Friday nite stages, some insanely fast and rough

BIG dips

LOTS of crests (co-pilotes bring beaucoup Bonine)

Some decent jumps

Few water Xings--beaver dams may change this

Large Nassty Rox in ditches--n.c. means NO FREAKIN CUT

beware rogue ATVs and other upredictable wildlife (one stage last year delayed due to ATV creaming a specator pickup)

many toaster size rox laying in road (aka, hi-speed skid plate testing)

be prepared to speak (or at least understand) French at controls

prepare to be goaded into crazy speeds by awesome spectators and bilingual announcers on loudspeakers

ditto by gorgeous women, gorgeous men...very Euro spectacle

what else?

loong nite on Friday

strong field, many many fast teams

watch out for the Justy's, they are faster than you would believe!

Cheers, enjoy yer recce

Keep your driver at the speed limit on the transits - they're almost as much fun as the stages - and he sometimes needs to be reminded that he's not on stage.. :)

The Friday start'll probably be in reverse order. If they run Mecaglisse again on Friday, you need to keep your eyes open for merging traffic on the go-cart track...I remember the Sat stages being pretty technical.

Sometimes there are things going on in French that us unilingual types manage to miss.

I've only co-driven it, and only once, but I found it to be one of the more physically taxing events I ran that year (2 yrs ago - it was warm and super dusty).

There is a sandy spot or two but they don't last too long in mileage. The one I remember is uphill and took forever in time.
This is a good one, you'll see a lot you probably haven't experienced all in one event, glad to see you are coming up.
