I'm going to Baie des Chaleurs next week. Are there any maps/atlases of the area like the Delormes in the US?

Also, I'm thinking about running Defi and Tall Pines, so if there are any maps of those areas I'd also be interested.

Thanks...

what kind of maps are you after? just plain road maps, or do you want topo features also?

I know that the province of quebec website has maps online, but I cannot for the life of me recall the addy. You can zoom in on these maps quite a bit, but I don't know if the detail will be what you need. I know the province of ontario produces really good topo maps that usually have all the small roads marked on them, and can be purchesed at an outdoors shop. I can check today perhaps (there is an outfitters right next to my work) and see how detailed the bancroft map would be...

Also, I am aware that there USED to be a company (maybe they still exist) that published maps of small, local roads for tourists who wanted to drive places that were more interesting/less crowded. We have one that might include bancroft, so I'll take a peek, and I can scan and send it if I can find it. If this won't do the trick, you could try getting in touch with a GIS firm in the area and seeing what a custom package would cost you.

Hope this helps

Your best bet are probably the topographic maps for the area. They are available in 1:50000 and 1:250000 for all of Canada. There are also packages of digital topos available. Quebec also has a set of regional maps that have good road detail but no (or few) topographic features. Ontario has similar maps available in both map or atlas format through MapArt. Unfortunately, Canadian topos are not in the public domain like the USGS maps, so be prepared to pay for them, even (especially) in digital form.

Natural Resources Canada website:

MapArt:

For digital maps:

http://www.fugawi.com/indexcom.html
http://www.softmaptech.com/skipIntro_en.html

I have some of the Fugawi sets (but then, I also have Fugawi).

Jeremy-
I've had the same dilema- I live an hour from Canada (2 hours from Montreal) and every time I go up there I look for a descent atlas of the great north- I will let you know if I ever find anything. As for Defi-Ste-agathe- I plan on attending for the first time myself this year. And Tall Pines- a must - my favourite rally in N.A! I have a pretty good map of the rally area from last year working as Press- I'm not willing to give up my map but I will scan it and e-mail it to you if you leave your e-address.
PS- I just found the best map of Quebec I have - published byJDM Geo Inc. 514-956-8505 or mapart.com

Hope to see that audi in Canada!

Where's "2 hours from Montreal?" I live in Burlington, VT, 2 hours away myself...

Fortunately, I found out that for this weekend, the co-driver in our "sister" Audi has a set of topos of the area. This'll give me an idea of which maps to buy for myself to get good coverage of the area.

Adrian-

I thought you were pulling our legs. I thought that fugawi was only a Johnny Carson line. But the link actually works!

Learned something today, so I guess that I can go home.

press on,

I'm just across the pond- Saranac Lake to be specific- It's funny- there is almost NO rally interest over here- but I keep meeting people in and around Burlington like you, Seth S., Dan C. etc. Just another reason for me to move to Vermont (the other reason is so I may take classes at Vt-tech and not pay $500 a credit!)

Let me know if and when you or your team is going up north- I'd love to crew for you.

By the way- enjoy this weekend- I'm stuck going on a bloody 'family' camping trip :-(
