Magnum Opus April , 21st 2012 Upper Peninsula of Michigan !

Welcome to the Magnum Opus Rally....

We are very excited to bring back an historic event to Michigan after many years of absence - Magnum Opus. First run in Marquette, then moved to Munising, and now headquartered in Newberry, the new Magnum Opus will run on April 21, 2012. Encompassing 12 stages, day & night, and over 50 stage miles, the new event will be ‘route book only, no recce’. Nothing fancy, just a good old school, single day rally in da U.P., eh?

The event will feature something very special: a re-run of one of the stages from the infamous 1974 World Rally Championship Press On Regardless! Competitors will trace the route of such legends as Sandro Munari in the Lancia Stratos and Marku Alen in the Fiat 124 Abarth! The other stages are all new and never previously rallied.

The website has been updated with a forum and we encourage everyone to bookmark it as we are releasing details almost daily regarding lodging and other news.

The community of Newberry hopes you will join us in Michigan’s Eastern Upper Peninsula for this historic rally and are looking forward to providing you with some fantastic roads and hospitality. There will be a dinner and awards banquet for workers and competitors immediately following the conclusion of the rally. Details are on the forum.

We are looking forward to providing competitors, workers, and spectators with a fun, fast event.
Thank you !

The Magnum Opus Rally Staff

Miles/days?

I'm guessing if you're making if affordable, you're probably looking at something like a dual 1 coeff rally with tulips? But at a 6 hour tow, it's pretty awesome for me.

Tow Friday night, one (or two?!?) pass in morning (I would like to see it if possible), run in afternoon, awards in evening, drive home Sunday.

I'd like to see a one pass where you can annotate the route book. But a two pass and notes creation would be awesome, since it is allowed in the RA rules:
E. Rallies that let competitors create new pace notes (as opposed to annotating the stage notes or route books) must offer pace notes training 46
and should offer two-pass reconnaissance.

One day event ( Saturday ) Start in daylight, may run into night ...

Reason for the move to Newberry is I live here and have contacts with all of the key people in the community. And the Newberry Chanber asked for us to have an event here.... Nothing against Munising at all...

Plus new roads that drivers have never seen before........

Tim, if you have any planning meetings, post up the info here, such as location, time, agenda, etc. I don't know if I could make it out to Newberry area easily, but if you have any mtgs in Marquette area (due to central location of workers) I may be able to get up there (depending on kid activities, wife's work schedule, etc). I am sure there are others that would want to help out also.

I am planning a good "old school" blind rally on route book only. Schedule will not allow enough time for proper recce, either 1 or 2 pass. Now, don't panic guys, I will write a proper route book, so you co-drivers will not be bored. There will be both day and night stages, so make sure your lights are ready. Central service location so you don't need to bring an army of service crew. What am I saying!!!! Bring the army. The more the better.....

Would love to do it, but my wife's delivery is scheduled on April 20.
A week or two before the event take her for a ride in the rally car, preferably over some railroad tracks. :)
