I have a dream run that I have done many times in segments , long and short , I want to share some great roads, and vistas that are not used by the current TSD's. This could be a Historic Targa NE and I want to go high end to make it a fund raiser for two food pantries at both ends of the event that I am connected too.

Eventually I will discuss this with Steve McKelvie, he does'nt know it yet :)... but before I waste his time I have a few questions of a general nature to explore here :) .

The idea I have been kicking around in my head for the last 3-4 years is a 2 day event in the North East. Starts at a mountain top historic retreat then hits a historic New England inn for the day one finish, day two finishes at a well known lodge. So, the following will expose the fact I am on the outside edge of TSD's and a total outsider for the historic end. Is there a forum I should go to for these folk? Please direct me. I feel comfortable bouncing it out here on SS first so that is why I am doing so.

For a historic TSD how many miles can a car be expected to go? Per day?

If I drove intersates and secondary the route would be 270 miles or so, I want to do it in 370-400+/- is that feasable or expected in this kind of event?

Will a person with a Stutz or Model T or old ME/BE drive some dirt roads that are compacted and as smooth as a dirt road gets?

The level of accomidations is high/unique/historic, all have ample room for display of the vehicles, this would allow a Parc Ferme at each location ...(maybe a slight admission? Does that happen?)

How much diversion is wanted on such an event? The routes are rich with vistas, and "things", is there a preference or balance that is needed or does such a clientele want straight up movement to enjoy one end point and then the next?

I have done a few conventions in my day (in example I imported a 40 piece brass band from Germany for one just to sell the package) so building the perks and dinners and rooms into the event is understood, I know the fundraiser is on the outside of the event. The event only needs to break even.

So that's the opening round I have many more ideas but I need this basic stuff to start the flow chart.

I also understand to make this work may take more then one turn of the calender :)

Sounds like a great idea as there are few Historic Rallies in the US. Suggest instead of contacting Steve you first check out Greatrace.com They have been resurrected in conjunction with a Vintage Car Group from the midwest. They get up to 90 cars on their rallies. Major difference is they run without odos and just with speedometers and get great scores. They did a rally last year Chatanooga to NOrthern Vermont and this year doing a 1 week rally starting and ending in Michigan and going around 3 of the 5 Great Lakes. Contact info on the site.

Guessing in the range of 200 to 250. You want lots of hoopla and average speeds for rallies are relatively slow considering rest breaks, lunch, etc.

Keep off the Interstates as much as possible. 370-400 for 2 days might be doable but, remember, need to have a nice banquet the 2nd nite.

Keep them on only pavement, will increase your attendance greatly.

Good accommodations a must, YES on Parc Expose/Ferme Let the folks in free. Many show up for Great Race.

With the distance you want to cover, morning and afternoon breaks plus lunch is about all the time you have.

Thanks Dave, I will compile any answers and adjust, but to answer one question immediately, there is a streach of 10-15 miles that is dirt... and NOTHING is on an interstate I was just mentioning the difference that it would make...

I also expect a "slow" rally with lot's of hoopla.

I also have thought about running a non historic tsd with it on the same route, concurrently as a lower cost support series.

These are only my opinions based on experience. Would think the Great Race people could give you some info regarding unpaved but, I am sure you will lose some entries with dirt. Don't know a number or percentage but, you will lose a few at least. Slow and hoopla is good, figure starting around 8 and finishing by 5 or so and that's 9 hours. Take out at least 2 hours for lunch and breaks leaves 7 hours. Would look at around 25 to 30 mph so you've got 175-210 miles per day. Might get a little more mileage but, not more than 250.

Hope these ideas work as a start for you. SCCA might work as well for you but, Great Race has lots of experience with older cars while scca uses a lot of rentals.
