I have a question. OK, maybe two.
What happened to the Historic class in Rallye events and are there any Historic events in the US?

As I understand it, its up to the event organizer to decide if they'll score an "H" class in their event. For example, our 510 and Greg Healy's 260Z were at Maine Forest Rally last summer, displaying H class stickers, and the event did not recognize the class - maybe they're looking for a min. of 3 per event? Not sure.

Other than possibly Denise McMahon's Historic rally out west, I don't believe there are any Historic only events in the US, similar to the Ireland/Scotland/English rallies (i.e., Killarney Historic Rally in Ireland, etc..).

I believe some Pacific NW clubs highly support Historic cars inside their events, through H-class competitions in racing and car preparation.

There has to be more than two "Old" cars out there.
Didn't you get automatically put into "H" class with cars 20 years and older?
I'd say more than half the G/2 and some G/5 cars are oldies.
Maybe it should be renamed "Classic" instead "Historic".
That way people won't feel old. :+

Pretty sure they have no choice but to accept entries in the class as it is in the RA rulebook. Whether they give out trophies etc. is another matter.

The NW is particularly H friendly, we even have trophies for Best Construction or Presentation of H vehicles.

Check out our affordable Northwest events. It's the closest thing you can come to European rallying in the 1960's here in the North America.

We have a full program of rally events, hill climbs and rallycross events for historics and classics.

So, what are you thinking here, Ray? You're trying to sell your rally car project, but asking about Historic? Wanna set the word on it's ear and buy one of the Citations and run with me in Historic? We would ruin the class forever!

No, I didn't think of that, but sounds like fun. Citations 1, 2 on the podium. :)
By the rate I'm going anyway, the LeMans will be a classic by the time I get on any stage.

Unfortunately, the American Adventure had to be canelled due to lack of entires by the international teams. We were going up against two other international historic rallies...so we either have to do it on the off year. Which each international historic rally are run every two years and not the tradional annual season like regular rallies. So at this time this rally is in limbo to be run here in the states.....

Now Treeline rally is running an historic class and the people who run it...will get cash back...read the news on the website regarding the historic class.

Denise, Congrats to you and your fellow organizers on your event this past weekend.

Just to understand how the Treeline Historic Supps worked: Am I correct in understanding that IF a Historic car entered and paid the $600 normal fee, as long as they scored a FINISH, they would have gotten back the entire $600? I'm asking this for background, as there's been a lot of discussion as to how to shoo the Historic cars out of their garages and onto stages. Was there discussion about pro-rating the Historic cars, like finish half the event, get half back? Or even waiving the entry fee up front, since the organizers were willing to fully refind it anyway?

Also, why the 2WD restriction just for Treeline? That sure cuts down on the available field of Historics.

Trying to learn, just asking, no agenda. Thanks, Norm Murdock

Norm,
I am going to allow my husband to answer this one since this was Pat McMahon's decision to do this at Treeline and we hope to continue this tradition at Treeline.

Thank you for your kind words....

I am also deciding to have the historic class as part of the Southwest RallyCup series starting in 2007 and have some big payout for the overall winner first and second.....there are quite a few out there now to participate.

So I will have Pat get back to you.....and he will be using my password and name since he has a problem signing on ss.com

Treeline Historic Class

Norm: The Treeline Historic class required an additional $35 entry over and above the regular entry. We paid 100% of THAT money back. Four entries @ $35=$140... the two finishers got $90 and $50 respectively plus plaques for finishing in their normal RA classes(which happened to be 1 each in GP2 and GP5.) I got the basics for the requirements from working with David Sutton on the American Adventure Rally. We wanted to do something that was simple enough that it would require no policing, and would allow these competitors to compete in their normal RA classes.

Thanks for the clarification, Pat. We have to talk about rally Capris sometime. You have a rich history in that regard! Side comment: I hope the American Adventure Rally will allow 4WD Historics, particularly if they are actual survivors with competition history. I didn't see anything banning 4WD in RA's Article 11, FWIW. Norm

Yes, that was deliberate to allow in-period 4WD to compete.
