Great thread!

Sooooo....lessee....I want to know if a.....Porsche 914 was ever rallied in North America! (I know they've been in Europe)

And......uhhhh....how about a Mercedes Fintail? (again, I know in Europe...)

And, last but not least....any Jensen! (Extra points for an FF).

Before 1973, any and every thing was rallied. Sasha Lanz, who is on the SCCA Road Rally Board, rallied a DKW at the Big Bend Bash.
Fun fact: the Toronto Autosport Club started life as the DKW Owners Club.

There have been at least two in Targa Newfoundland:

Anyone know anything about an Aries/Reliant rally car? I found a mention of a rally K car in a description of a link to a web page that no longer exists. If anyone knows more, I'd like to hear it (my first car was a Reliant, so they have a special place in my heart).

There was a pretty famous Ford EXP back in the 80's. V-8, tube frame, one off build. Can't remember the drivers name sadly.

That was Dick Turner.

Codriver Tom Grimshaw said the best thing about that car was that it usually broke down before the bars closed.

In the early 1970s, two guys ran the Canadian Winter Rally in a Lotus Super Seven! Over 1500 miles of ice and snow, in an open top, and they finished. Sort of weird that I am posting about a winter rally as I sit in a beach front internet place in Akumal, Mexico.

First ever Doo *** rallysprint, 1988. Guy by the name of Randy Johnson (no, not the Big Unit.) His first ever event and he starts out trash talking and saying he's gonna kick all our asses with his big Scout. First stage goes balls to the walls off the start and less than 100 yards down the road goes off the first corner and rolls, literally within sight of the start. Never heard from him again.
I think I spy a Motorsport Club of Ottawa sticker on that front fender

Isn't that the best place from which to contemplate winter?

Adrian
Yes, I have reached the age where winter is worth contemplating but not worth participating in. Another tough day here. Just finished 18 hole of golf. Have a cold beer in front of me and am getting ready to have some lunch. If the Senators would start winning some hockey games, it might be worthwhile returning home.

Yes, there was a 914 at Sno*Drift in 2001. See results below. I have a photo of it - just not scanned in yet.

How about Bill Pichardo's Studebaker with a Cadillac motor, which finished the 1973 FIA Rally of the Rideau Lakes?!

I think somebody already mentioned AMC Gremlin - here's my ride at the 1972 POR:
