Bill Gwynne Rally School has won approval from Sports Car Club of America to assess competitors' competence for SCCA Rally licenses. The Northants based operation joins three US schools which can issue authorisations. The procedure, which includes a seminar to ensure a working knowledge of the SCCA rules plus a driving assessment, is similar to the UK's BARS system. Once completed the aspiring competitor applies to the SCCA for a permit.

The ProRally Championship has witnessed rapid growth over the last two seasons, attracting a number of European competitors, with British drivers Mark Lovell and Mark Higgins taking the Champions crown.
