We were fortunate enough to get a close look at Markko Martin's #1 recce car at the Rally Acropolis.

Here is the car. Looks like your normal everyday grocery getting Volvo, eh?

Well, until you look inside. Yes, that's a CD player. We were told that Markko needed the CD player because he gets bored on the road sections. His musical tastes were defined as "eclectic":

They normally carry 1 spare in the boot, but the rough Acropolis roads require them to take 2 along for the ride.

And the funniest part of the car...the seat bracket originally was Carlos Sainz's. You can see that Carlos liked the seat back a little higher.

Note the Coralba C-Rally (single display odometer)which the driver uses primarily to determine distances of straights to include in the notes.

Hope the loose wire complete with butt connector hanging near the pedals isn't anything important.

I'd say that wire is for the steering wheel mounted radio button.

I'd love to rally one of those Volvos...I'd love to rally ANY car actually. x(

Cheers!

And I'd bet the buttons on the steering wheel are the remote zero buttons for his C-Rally as I don't see one anywhere else easily accessable to the driver.

The P-Sport Jemba stagenote-producing Evo4 recce car is quite a technical piece of art. 3 Coralba rally odometers with 2 remote zero buttons are tapped into the car's ECU and reverse light wired to a 3-dimensional accellerometer (Jemba blackbox)hooked upto a laptop computer to run the programs and record the measurements as well as a laser printer to print copies of the notes for editing purposes. And a CD player to boot.

My own recce car is a retired TSD rallycar fitted with rally odo, map light, Hellas, high output alternator, skidplate, 4WD with LSD diffs, variable boost control with blow-off valve and downpipe. No exterior graphics as they are sometimes prohibited in the supplemental rules. Its nice to show up at an event and not worry about getting a rental car and fact that you already have a rally odo installed for precise distance measurements and rallytires as rentals don't come with them and you don't want to be spending recce time changing tires.
