The following quote from the latest news article, the portion on Tim:

"A new open class car is currently being prepared for Rim of the World "

Was his car damaged that badly or is this for another reason? The only picture I saw on the trailer didn't indicate significant damage.

I spoke with Alex, Tim's co-driver, at the awards and he said it was not badly damaged.

>Mike - Did you write the AV Sport press release???

No, but did you ever notice that there is a guy named Mike Anderson who works for AV Sport?:+ So I must know something since we share the same name. :p

Oh my friend how soon you forget. Remember the banquet? Shane mentioned they were retiring the Grp N. car that Tapio drove, and since they sold their old Open class car, they are going to have a new Open Class car. I stick by my guns!!

G2 85 VW GTI -working on it today, maybe even have it registered by the end of the day,-

I got a good look at it on Saturday afternoon. Wasn't damaged badly at all. Front bumper was gone, drivers door handle & mirror were gone. Slightly dented on the drivers side (like a flat impact against a bank). Definately looked drivable still, just might have gotten stuck where he stopped.

When we went by the car it was down a bank about 4 or 5 feet below road level. It was on its wheels and about 10 feet away from the road. I could tell from the tail lights it was a Focus. (And with my brilliant powers of deduction - I eventually realized it was O'Neil). There were so many trees around it I couldn't see how he got it in there with out smashing it up. I'm pretty sure there was no way of driving it out.

Too bad. That is a really nice car. We're all rooting for Tim to put something other than Subaru or Mitsu on top of the podium. It'll be fun to watch.

Talked to Tim after the rally, and he said it was mostly cosmetic. I guess they did tear up a suspension corner and rip off a subframe mount.

The cause of the accident?? Coming into a 4R+ (slippy) he was shifting down from fifth and went into 2nd instead of 4th. The result was instant wheel lock up and the car skated off. He said it's a problem with the trans he was still learning, and that he'd done it before, but always in a straight line. Sometimes it's the stupidest stuff that gets ya....
