Found this article about John Cirisan and did not see it linked here yet (but I may have missed it somehow):

http://www.mlive.com/sports/aanews/index.ssf?/base/sports-0/111357782541930.xml

"John Cirisan has always loved racing, from mountain bikes to jet skis.

But he never could afford to race cars until he discovered rally racing in the strangest of places - the bathroom at work.

On the floor, Cirisan found a car magazine opened to a page featuring the headline "Rally Racing on a Budget." He discovered later the magazine was strategically placed by a friend to pique his interest."

HA! I just found this article today on my desk at work! The Ann ARbor news finally ran it- the day I get a deposit on the rally car! Oh the irony...

It was actually my first codriver, Jamie Giltner who placed a Grassroots Motorsports mag with an article talking about how affordable Clubrally was, with Randy Baily's car in it. To say it "piqued my interest" was a bit of an understatement.

Ah, but the "cheap" aspect turned out to be a lie, didn't it? I put the myth of cheap racing right up there with affordable boating and free kittens.:)

In retrospect it can be easier on the pocktebook than other forms of auto racing, it's just you have to handle it like an addiciton. You cant overindulge. That's what I did. I over did it. My crew chief & Lurch warned me...

But that's ok. I will re enter in a year of two with a more cost effective ride that is more easily repairable & durable for an affordable (to me) cost.

Just cant get caught up in the sharp end lure.

Some of us have to learn through experience. Thats okay. You likely have a better idea of your threshold now.

Good luck with your future car that you will build for FUN.:)
