Actually, Topi, it was 1973. Bob and I competed in the event in his Datsun 1800SSS. Scott Harvey and Tom King were also competing in the event in their Dodge Colt. The two of us teamed up with Shektar Mehta and Martin Holmes (in their works Datsun 240Z) to form a private team in the rally.

Bob (who was also the Rallymaster for the POR) and I (who was also the Rallymaster for the Rideau Lakes) both wanted to go to Europe to compete in some events, make some contacts and see what we could learn that would be applicable to the POR/Rideau Lakes. We had never rallied together. Bob shipped the car to England. We flew over and went off to our first event, the Scottish Rally. Spent about three months there and competed in the Scottish (ERC event), the Nutcracker (Motoring News road rally), the Circuit of Donegal (in Ireland), the Plains Rally (BTRDA event which I did with Reg Mullenger in his Ford Escort 1600 BDA) and the 1000 Lakes Rally. My total cost to do 5 events in 3 months was $3,000 Canadian. Does not sound like much now, but that was 30 years ago and if you multiply by a factor of about 5 to 10, it was not insignificant.

Did not finish the 1000 Lakes. Went off in a ditch and bent the suspension.

Jumps were OK. Bob's car was really well prepared. Don't drink Vodka. Saunas were excellent. The remainder is for old farts/beer drinking stories.
