I recieved a really cool pic from Mike Whitman today (thanks Mike!) of him flying over Brockway, and a young me spectating. That, of course, makes Mike wholely responsible for my rally addiction. Anyways, it got me wondering, who else out there are members of Brockway Mountain Air Force? I, along with codriver Chris Plante, joined up in 2000 along with Chris Gilligan and Joe Peterson. I've seen Jim Anderson pretty high, as well as Steve Gingras who I'm sure had Bill Westrick with him. I remember a pic of Karl Sheible in the factory Subaru a few years back. Then of course we can't forgot General Pat Richard, along with Ben Bradley.

Since it looks as though we may never hit that jump again, entry into the BMAF may be closed forever. Just wondering who else is a member?

Here're some Team Harco efforts.

Can't remember where I just recently saw the video of Pat Richard's first Brockway flight but it's absolutely worth a view if someone knows the url.

It wasn't much, but given Dillon's "Wheels on the ground!!!" litany that I heard all the way to the top I'm proud to have gotten this much air -

- and truly grateful that neither a spring nor shock nor other reasonably important piece of the StudBug managed to fall off whilst we were momentarily suspended in the air there ...

Wanna hear Dillon at work three years ago? Ck out http://www.realautosport.com/video_clips/lspr2001/mm-stage-16.mpg @ 41Meg or http://www.realautosport.com/video_clips/lspr2001/mm-stage-16.rm @ 19Meg ...

I'll be taking photos at Yump 1 this year (just like last year) unless it rains. That means getting the first ten or so cars at Gratiot Lake end and high-tailing to the end of the stage and walking in a few miles. (Note to spectators: Don't try this... you'll be turned away!) Last year the big yumps there were from Pasi Hagstrom, Lauchlin O'Sullivan, Doug Havir, Otis Dimiters, John Daubenmeir, Dave Cizmas, Jeff Harty and a few others in the Club ranks.

The scariest moment was two years ago, at the final yump, when Tom Young lost control in a big way. Another five feet to the left and he would have probably tumbled to his death. Jim Anderson did the same thing in 1999 and took out a shrub on the right-hand side of the road after getting the car up on the two left wheels trying to keep the car away from the cliff. In 1998 Jay Kowalik landed on the left-front wheel and he had his hands full trying to keep it together as well.

Although it was a cool yump, the dangers of someone going over the cliff were VERY REAL. I wasn't there in 2001 for Pat's big yump, but heard that the crowd was way out of control according to a few other photographers.

Me, with Brad Hawkins in 2000 (on TV, no less)

(not bad for a car that could barely make 90mph)

and with Jon Bottoms in 2002.
(I know Jerry has a pic of that too somewhere)

Wasn't that after Brad's intrepid service crew decided to take a stroll around Copper Harbor?

Intrepid? I'm not sure I'd use that word, but yes. ;-)

RE: patr in 01

Looking at all them talons that high in the air gets me excited..... Too bad I wont be able to hit that yump at speed..... Its my first time at LSPR and I would have liked to do a bit of that..... I just spent last weekend testing and did some 65-75 mph jumps to see how that car acts..... Felt real good, but I TKOed my camber mounts...

Now they are beefed up to take big hits!

Alright - I need a navigator to help with this (or the moderator). So how do I attach images to my note?

There is a good shot of the Team Harco Colt flying on Brockway from 1998 that should be up here too.

There's also a good short film of our 2002 flight at my website. Again, need a navigator (or similarly skilled geek) to see if the link can be posted here.

Sure wish we could join you all this year. Hopefully we'll be back in the near future.

Don't worry, there is still a pretty good jump mid-stage. In 2002, Jon Bottoms was disappointed by the final jump - we'd got much more air at the mid-stage one.

RE: patr in 01

definatly miss spectating there, was 02 the last year it was permitted? the crowd had got so out of hand and the ppl taking pictures were the most nutz of all laying down on the shoulder of the road, but awsome pics all and thanks for the few years of entertainment up the mountain. I'll always have fond memories of learing that a small vw can fly.
