First paragraph of official SCCA press release for Wild West says: "Rhys Millen, his rally program with Mitsubishi drawing to a close"

Is Rhys leaving Mitsubishi? Is Mitsubishi leaving the SCCA Manufacturers Council? Is there something else going on that we are misinterpreting here?

The words I heard at the event were that:

Mitsubishi was leaving Rhys...

I take that to mean that he will not be heading up their rally effort next year...

I will assume that you have already dialed up Lauchlin, why don't you give us the scoop Jon? Pe

Wish I had a scoop to share! No news here, but if anyone deserves a top ride it's Lauchlin.

We're proud to say he's still listed as one of our Widget Team drivers!

Check out http://www.widgetracing.com/lauchlin.htm if you like.

Mitsu told Rhys they want no part of him (which makes his win even sweeter)Co-ordsport in England will be taking it over with (this part is rumor)Vermont Sportscar acting as liason (similiar to his deal with Prodrive) Drivers have not been announced, but it may be two Europeans despite the other manufacturers agreeing to keep an American on board

RE: Mitsubishi for 2003

The word at Ojibwe was that Mitsubishi would make their announcement regarding plans for 2003 that weekend. They probably did... to the other manufacturers. However, the PR department at Mitsu has not gotten around to issuing a News Release about it yet.

There were three teams that put in a bid to be the Mitsu team for 2003. RMR was one. I heard from two sources close to RMR at Wild West, Rhys being one, that Mitsu had not chosen them.

Peter Collinson from Co-ordSport was on hand at Wild West, in the company of Lance Smith of Vermont Sportscar. I tried to set up an interview with Peter, and he agreed, but other problems (Havir's wreck) kept me from meeting him later. However, he did say there would be no official announcement until November.

That does not necessarily mean that Co-ordSport will be the Mitsubishi backed team in the U.S., only that they will likely be participating next season.

Here's another rumor for you...

Tim O'Neil will be in an Open class car for 2003... and it won't be a Subaru. The contract has not been signed, but once it is there will be a big announcement. You may be VERY surprised.

Tim Winker
