hmmm.. I really don't think it has anything to do with a car class. Us Mericans like to sit on our cans and drink. Us Mericans don't like to tromp off in the woods and see a car every minute, we wanna see crashes, and lotsa cars all the time. For Jebus sake, they play HOURS of FREAKIN LAWNMOWER racing on ESPN each year, and we have to buy our time on the NASCAR channel!!! Now, I know Stabil is a great company, but certainly they aren't forkin out the dough to show Billy Bob Bubba on his slick 2 stroke Briggs and Stratton... Why hasn't rally exploded in Merica, my opinion is because it hasn't been stuffed into an arena in front of 60k fans. BUT you can't do that to rally. You want a Merican rally sport, something new to all us MGD drinkers? Bring over Yurrupean Rallycross, stick it in a stadium, put 6 fire breathing killer B cars on the track at once, and let em swap paint! That is what Mericans wanna see!!! They don't want to wait for hours in the cold/dust/heat/rain/snow/sleet/dead of night/etc to see one stinkin car every minute and leave 40 minutes later, with no t-shirt or beer girls. That my friend takes TREMENDOUS effort, and us Mericans are some of the LAZIEST SOB's on this planet.

You See... Rally takes a different breed. A real enthusiast, not just spectator. Someone who has dirt in their veins, and loves the sound of a BOV, or to see a sweet 2nd Gen VW turn a perfect pendulum. Rally is not for America, or Europe, or China, rally is for the enthusiast. You cannot "Americanize" this great sport, if you could many of us that love it so much, and are passionate about it's future, would walk away in disgust. No, rally in America is not broke, just under subscribed due to our lack of exposure. The enthusiasts are out there, they do exist, and are finding out that this is not just a video game on the PS-2, and we didn't just invent the thing cause it WAS a game, and that the average Joe CAN compete in an inexpensive car, and have the most fun behind the wheel with your pants on. Sure, some of the back end politics can be daunting, but in the big scheeme of things, I like it, I like it ALLOT!!!

>_OK , All the BS about the European way of ralling is
>getting REAL old !!!!! This is AMERICA!!! In most sports WE
>are on top!!

Is that true? I was under the impression that F1, Rally, and Soccer were the most popular sports in the world (in terms of viewership) with maybe cricket or rugby in there somewhere. Although I hear the NBA is quite popular among Mongolians yak herders (no thats not a joke)

>- The Euro's are coming, the Euro's are coming, O my GOD the
>sky is falling!!! GET over it! Shut UP and ride!

Damn straight!! I would love to see people get serious and actually challenge them! Enough with worrying about stickers and the latest street crap in the showrooms and get out there and drive drive drive drive sleep drive. Yes they have expensive rides but that's not all.

However since Europeans competitors are much more serious and much more experienced, and have been doing it for many years, I think there is plenty to learn from our friends across the pond.

Good job Bill. Thank you. You said everything I would say.

No we don't need an American Class and, with all due respect to motorcyclists, rallying has nothing to do with motorcycle racing. Those who thought it was easy, very recently, figured out how the cow eats the cabbage. If you are not happy with the way the rally community is, if you don't like the sport, if it doesn't appeal to you then why on earth are you here, go find a dirt track forum or a motorcycle road racing forum or a quilting forum, whatever you want but leave us alone, we already have enough arrogance we are dealing with without you.

Bill thanks again my friend.

Cheers

Everyone, car enthusiast or not, has been blown away when I show them a video of rallying. When I actually get them to a rally, it's all over they are hooked! I have been obsessed since my first encounter with a BOV on a stage:p

>BTW Bragging about street racing is politically incorrect

Mogan you do not under stand on the street racing . The streets are CLOSED. Like a tamac rally is. Over seas thay will close off the city and race I the streets , theres insurance, corner works and all.

- Your over seas alot?? Do you know of the Isle of Man TT? It's the same as the Manx rally
:)

- LOVE RALLY I could race other motor sports,But like "you" LOVE RALLY!!! , LOVE the European!! I have lernd alot from them !!! On the bike. On the " arrogance" THAT I am not.

-I feel that there is room for a class that is of the USA??? And maybe the "arrogance" mite LOVE the sport "you and I" love so much!

-Keep the classes we have! Just ADD a class that the USA mite LIKE? We can't try some thing new?? Nascar has a new class? right? Truck!
Why did thay start a new class?? To get more fans?? I would say? Could be wrong?????????????????????????????????????

-M Samli, I feel that your "arrogance" is keeping rally in the dark! Change is GOOD look around my man, In 30 years rally over here has not moved forword (Much)??? WHY? With out change life stands still!! The "arrogant" hate change, I like it.

-Maybe a new class would go big over here? And the European would like it and use it over seas? YOU never know. I gess "were to arrogant to try" Nascar's not!

-So no room for a new class in the woods? Any one out there think there is?

What kind of class would you like to add ?

Maybe an inexpensive car class ?
We already have G2 and G5

Maybe a class for much older cars ?
We already have H

Maybe a class for production cars ?
We already have PGT

Maybe something a bit more powerful without astronomical cost ?
We have GrN

Maybe something for the pickem-up trucks ?
We have Rally Truck

Maybe something for [email protected] to the wall rallying ?
We have Open (and your 350 V8 is welcome)

Now please enlighten me, where would you like to create a new class? Sorry mate Rally Motorcycle class doesn't look like a feasable option besides where would you seat the codriver (corider;)) ?

Please don't misunderstand our enthusiasm for this sport as arrogance (by the way we have the technology and know-how to be arrogant too)if you think we are being arrogant when we are sharing our opinion and experiences about an issue we know a thing or two about, it means that you have to use your intelligence a bit more and learn to look outside the box. We just get a bit ticked off when one starts to bad-mouthing rallying in the US.

You say you love rallying but perhaps you love some hybrid sport that is not Rallying. Very frankly I don't think US rallying is in the dark, I believe we are on the right track to make the sport a lot more popular and a lot more understood, yes we did hit a lot of snags in the past and we will hit many more in the future but that's the way it is and will be, no pain no gain.

I suggest you to go help your local organisers, work in a rally or two, participate in a few rallies, learn, then you will understand where we are coming from and why we are saying what we are saying.

Cheers

Perhaps not more serious on an individual basis, but rather the point I was trying to make is... well, what's that statistic? I believe there are more licensed scrutineers in Finland (pop 5 million) than there are all rally licence holders in the USA together (pop 280 million).

Therefore as a nation, or just as a group of people, they are much more serious than people in general over here. With such a high number AND high percentage involved, there will naturally be more infrastructure, a better club system, more events, more competition, more opportunity in general. As they say, the best rally driver in the world could be a taxi driver in Calcutta, but we'll never know because he or she will never get a chance to drive a gravel car. If practically the whole country gets a chance, then you will discover those with the most talent with more frequency. Plus Finns are naturally crazy anyway which helps.

So to get to that point, they must have learned a lot of lessons and done a lot of trial and error, in both organizing events, running them, keeping participation high, and also driving skill, car preparation, etc etc all aspects.

Also with a large rally community, they can have many more people doing rally full time, for a living, than over here. And I think everyone will agree that doing things for a living tends to be more more "serious" when you have to pay rent with it.

Anyway I'm lazy and I don't feel the need to learn things the hard way so I look to where they've got it right as an example or at least a starting point.

RE: Gp5

>Two wheel drive, up to 5.1L engine unless pushrod, then
>5.6L. Think Mustang, RX7, Dodge Omni Turbo, Saab Turbo.
>Rotaries and supercharging equal cubic inches in the G5

More like... Think 2.4 Turbo Neon with contingencies... 210 horsepower, 250 torque BONE STOCK
