Have there been any rallied in the U.S.? I know they were campaigned in Europe when they were relatively new, with moderate success and they're a staple of the Vintage racing scene over here, but for rally?... The latest Vintage Racecar Journal has some very inspiring images of a couple Guilia Ti Super rally cars :7 *drool*

There is an interesting (and mysterious) photo on page 149 of "Alfa Romeo Giulia: History & Restoration", by Pat Braden. The car is LHD and the backdrop looks very Californian...

The photo caption reads:

"The Giulia was even a success as a rally car. Here was the Ruiz 1750 GTV sliding hard through a corner", photo by Bill Wood

...the questions is: Who is Ruiz?

Other than that, the John Tipler Book "Giula Coupes & GTAs" has quite a few GTV rally photos, but all are were taken in the UK & Europe I believe.

I, too, am very interested in knowing more on this subject.

Let's see if anyone else can help.

Bill
PS You might try asking the ALFA-digest instead.

I dont know about actual Alfa rally cars, but I am pretty sure that a GTV or a Gulia Super Ti would be more than a match for the Historic cars currently competing. I saw the '71-2(?) Manx rally on Legends of Motorsport and it showed several Gulia Supers in that event. They did not seem to fair well against the Escorts and Opels though.

Plan on getting a dry sump with a bulletproof drive system, the pans are too low and fragile for even street use. We used to deliver each car with the optional sump guard as a matter of course, saved a lot of tears.

So Randy, are you an ex-Alfisti?... Please tell more :)

I have looked at the undercarriage of an old GTV and it's scary how low some of the components hang down there. I'd like to see how the Guilia sedans compare; I know Autodelta campaigned Super Ti's in much of the '64 European Rally Championship with quite a bit of success.

I am a recovering Alfisti since '95 when I sold my last Alfetta GT. I have resisted the urge to relapse like last week when I got offered a '70 GTV rolling chassis and passed it up. Its kind of like hematitis, you may get rid of the symptoms but Alfisti-ness is always in your system and never really goes away.;)

Sorry for the delay, don't read too much about the past but it is slow at work...
Worked at Bobcor and crewed for Burt Everett, paddocked next to Buffum and PLN at Lime Rock about '75 - we all had Escorts.
Played with the IMSA Montreal and shipped it to new owners in Brazil where it finally finished its first race in their hands, an enduro too!
Fixed a lot of Alfas between time and then got a Milano to run SSA in '87.
Built a GT Jr. and drove it 5yrs for Jay Iliohan in GT5.
Ran Milanos in Firehawk at the Glen.
Ran Jay's ITB GTV in the Nelson 24hr.
Drove Jay's 1300 GTA, 1600 GTA and a GTAm in SVRA.
So I guess I've been around a lot of Alfas.

Randy,

I'm not familiar with the classes and/or series you've listed above, but they all sound like road racing, not rallying.

Do you know if anyone has ever rallied a GTV (105/115 series) in North America?

I've heard of a Milano on the East Coast (Frederic Carpenter/Joshua Bressem) and there's this GTV6 here on the west coast,

...but is that it for rally Alfas?

Cheers,

10-4 on the road racing, only rallying 2 years now.
115 might be OK with a skid plate but I'd drysump a 105 chassis but I'd suspect rocks and belt drives aren't too neat either so a super cover is needed too.

Gary English is the man to ask here on the West coast. He's rallied 2 that I know of, there may be more.
