Let's try a Pro Rally question:

What Pro Rally had the fewest number of finishers?

What year?

How many finished?

Who was the winner?

Bonus point if you can name what the winner was driving.

Lots of bonus points if you can name all of the finishers.

(If there's a tie in number of finishers, and I don't think there is, I'm looking for the earliest event.)

Helpful suggestion: Rally Racing News won't help you with this one... the results aren't up there!

1974 Nor'Wester

8 finishers

John Rodgers...winning driver, unsure of navvie, perhaps his wife Janie (?)

8th place Jack Deno and Don Rumph (?)

And the rally broke the Jeeps, which was an unspoken goal (I was told)

All from memory.

I think I recall a story from a late 70's/ early 80's Michigan rally that after the first night there were only 4 cars still running- so the organizer allowed cars to be fixed to run on day two- Davis Parps had wrecked his Saab and Jimmy Brandt (his codriver) fixed it, found his own codriver, and drove it to a finish)

Eric, you'll be pleased to note I got the info from an old Village Idiot, the newsletter of the Columbus Rally Club. I don't know if you were the editor then because this issue was missing the cover page, but you hve an article in it.

Paul,

You are very, very close... right rally, wrong year.

The 1974 version of the Big Bend Bash Pro Rally only had two finishers.

Gene Henderson won it in the Jeep, of course. Second (and last place too!) was Paul Greven in who knows what...

I was never the editor for the Idiot, just wrote for it. Mike Chern and later Tom Drake were the editors during that time. Eric Jones told me sometime back that he still had all of the Idiots -- I've been meaning to call him and see if I can get copies.
