Rally Jamaica... The name has now become a mainstay of what is uniquely Jamaican. The words "rum, sun, sand, sea and reggae music" are no longer the only things that conjure up thoughts of tropical delights. Add to that Lydford mines, New Kingston and the Wakefield watersplash and one pretty much gets the idea that we are talking high speed rallying here. From the Lydford mines in the hills of St. Ann, through the Tru-Juice stages in Bog Walk, to the packed streets of New Kingston for the short but spectacular Digicel city stage, the first weekend of December has come to host the crown jewel of the rallysport calendar in Jamaica.

The event this year is set to be even bigger and better than before, with returning headline sponsors Petroleum Company of Jamaica (Petcom), and associate sponsors Digicel and Trade Winds Ltd (Tru-Juice). The rally starts on Friday, December 02 at 6:00pm with a parc expose in the parking lot of Jamaica International Insurance Brokers, smack in the middle of New Kingston, where the Friday night clubbing jetsetters and others will have a chance to join the excitement of the event, with the ceremonial start at 8:30pm.

Rally Jamaica 2005 will take the competitors to the Lydford mines in St. Ann on Saturday, December 03 to complete 12 stages for the day.

Sunday morning will see the cars racing between the orange trees while competing on the Tru-Juice stages in Bog Walk, and then head to the normally busy streets of New Kingston for the Digicel New Kingston stages, which is traditionally attended by the thousands who line the stage to catch a glimpse of their favorite rally crew.

This year there will be 10 cars from Barbados, 2 from Trinidad, and 1 each from the U.K. and Japan, travelling to Jamaica to try and claim the Petcom trophy. The overseas entries will be comprised of a WRC Corolla, 4 Subaru WRX's, 4 Mitsubishi Evo's, Suzuki Ignis Sport, BMW M3, Vauxhall Astra, Toyota Corolla (FWD) and a Peugeot 205. Local entries include Mitsubishi Evolutions (Gp A-7/ Gp N-3), Subaru WRXs (Gp A-2/ Gp N-1), a Ford Focus WRC, and about 16 2wd cars.

Rally Jamaica 2005 starts on Friday, December 02 and runs through to Sunday, December 04 and is sponsored by Petcom with associate sponsors Digicel and Tru Juice. It is an event of pure excitement and thrills from start to finish, and certainly one not to be missed for any reason.
