As the CARS Production 4wd rules were written for 2013, driveline swaps were allowed within models - allowing a wrx driveline in an RS shell.
Revisions to that rule, restricting driveline swaps to within a 'generation' would return this car to open, as would have the JDM 5 speed in any case.

The rules as written for 2013, if the STi driveline were a north american driveline and left stock, then yes. However, there is a rule change coming that will restrict drivelines to within the same generation for production.

well that's the thing
there were NO TURBO IMPREZAS till 2002 in North America!
so till then there were only n/a imprezas.
and that was my question all about - how can it be in "production" class

I think it is as the rules are now, it's production, but when the generational rule comes in it will be back in open.
