It's a recycled design. Can't remember the guy but he was a head designer for Alfa, then Audi, then Subaru and rehashed basically the same/similar design for all three makes. Looked good on the Alfa, not too bad on the Audi, and lame on the Subaru. But okay, I don't have any plans to drive a newer Subaru in the next ten years anyhow. Plus it will make the beautiful, unique cars stand out more than they already do at Parc Expose'.

Can't figure out how to attach pictures, but the old Seat Cordoda WRC cars look kind of like this? Seat's are Spanish VW's, maybe this is where that tie in is from.

Hate it. Yes, reminds me of the last version Seat Cordoba WRC, or some of the recent Suzukis here in the US. I think this is a worse move than the bugeye design, which was widely hated. I hope the aftermarket comes up with something good to overcome this ugliness. :+

Yup, same idea with the tall front grill. After looking at them all though I chose the Subaru and the Alfa as the best looking. Maybe it's the rally influence of the pics of those two or something.

Totally off topic but found this while looking for a pic of the Seat. Kinda neat page.

Okay, I'll speak out for the thumbs up crowd...

When I first saw pictures of the '06 my reaction was pretty much the same as the nay sayers' - looked good on <insert other car, in my case Alfa Romeo> but that is so not Subaru!

As I started noticing them on the street my attitude started to change, the more I saw, the more I couldn't help but like them - they've got character.

Then again I felt the same way about the new Mini and the restyled Mustang (but not, I have to say the new Beetle) and I love my bugeye.

So I guess I'm just a reactionary old aesthetic individualist with a soft spot for curves.

I like the 2005 front end on the Subies. The redesign needs to be redesigned. This time by somebody with artistic talent, and a knowledge of what looks good on a car.

UUUU-GLY!

Subaru managed to make something UGLIER than the '02s! If it's also larger and heavier then they will have hit the trifecta of new-car suckiness.

I hear the new WRXen will have the 2.5l engine. I guess it needs it, what with all of the additional UGLY weighing the car down.
