As Matt points out, the federal regulations only apply to the manufacture and sale of a vehicle (being interstate commerce and all...), so it's really up to the state that you are in as to what's legal. In states where the law is reasonable, a 5 or 6 point belt is no issue. If you happen to live in a state that requires an FMVSS approved belt to pass a safety inspection, call a Schroth dealer and get pushbutton style belts that are FMVSS approved . They have the appropriate tag (or at least did at one time). But, if your state is that nosy, they probably also have a law that says the car has to have an airbag if it was originally equipped with one, and they might have something about automatic retraction. I fixed that problem by moving to another state.
