Rallying in Atlantic Canada!

5 posts here in the last year, and they're all from Ontario to boot. Eastern Canada, pfeh! ;)

As some folks outside the region may know, we've been busy doing our best to rebuild performance rally in the Maritimes after a long quiet period. We've had an active annual Rally Cross series (now into its 10th year with 8-10 well attended events per season) and in 2009 we held our first RallySprint, the first performance rally event since the last Highlands Rally in 1993. Sure it was only two cars, but we had it! We've continued to grow things since growing the local competitive cars from 2 to 8 with more being built/bought and with 3 events per year ever since and the stage KMs growing every season. Feels great to have rally coming back to roaring life!

For those interested have a look at our (newly re-done) informational site covering all of our events at http://www.rallyeast.ca

For 2013 we again have 3 events on the calendar with a Rally Sprint (~21km) in July, a Single Road event (~50km) in October and our big event the Ledwidge Lookoff Rally in August which we're aiming to have over 100 stage KM! You can find information on last year's Ledwidge Lookoff Rally on the event website at http://www.lookoffrally.com. Information on the 2013 event will be added in the spring.

We're looking forward to more of our local competitors heading west to compete in other events (Expect to see at least a couple at the Baie) and hopefully we'll see some of the Central (Ahem) Canada folks coming East to play! We have some great roads and hospitality to offer!

Things are still being worked out and Supp Regs should be available in the next couple weeks. I know the organizer is aiming for ~100 stage KMs plus a couple of short Sprint-style spectator stages at a local quarry. Last year's running was 79km of stage.

No problem. We're really getting worked up about this one! We're hoping to bring in a least a few come-from-aways to try out our roads. We're building up a great stable of cars down this way. Just recently a local former CARS national competitor got the fire re-lit and had one of his old prepped RX7's rebuilt and updated to compete again. Its really exciting to see rally really taking off around here again! I can't wait for our first sprint in July!

Likewise details will be shortly available. The Sprints we've run the last few years have been 6-7 3km stages totalling 18-21km at a cost of $150CDN. Locations will be similar (if not some of the same roads) as the Lookoff Rally. Generally Central Nova Scotia. We have a couple of different properties we've used for sprints in the past, though.

You can see results with # of stages and KM breakdowns on the Rally East website here: http://www.rallyeast.ca/?page_id=37

Our calendar for 2013 is:

July 21st: RallySprint (~18-20km)
August 24-25th: Ledwidge Lookoff Rally (~100km)
October 27th: Single Road Rally (~40-50km)

All events are two-pass recce with recce taking place the day before, though we've made special case accommodations for same day recce if absolutely necessary. (Obviously not an option for the Lookoff Rally, though)

We're 18 days away from the 2013 Ledwidge Lookoff Rally and preparation is well underway for an amazing event!

Spectators:

Spectator information has now been posted in the ‘Spectators’ section at http://www.lookoffrally.com! New for 2013 are Spectator friendly events on Saturday, August 24th starting with a ‘Parc Expose’ car display which will take place in Dartmouth Crossing at the Intersection of Countryview Drive and McClure Close. Following this display the cars will move to the nearby Conrad Bros Ltd Quarry at 5pm for two back to back spectator stages! Watch all the cars rally the first stages of the 2013 Ledwidge Lookoff Rally all from one comfortable vantage point!

On Sunday, August 25th the event moves to Tennycape on the Noel Shore where the cars will battle it out on the stages of the Ledwidge Lumber property!

Volunteers:

The best way to see all the excitement is to volunteer! You'll help us make sure the event goes off without a hitch and in return get the best seat in the house for Sunday's (August 25th) stages! No experience is required and we can use all the help we can get! Rally is a very volunteer heavy sport and all are welcome! All volunteers will receive a free commemorative T-Shirt and be entered in a raffle for additional prizes! C'mon out for the show!

If you want to help out and take in a great show, please have a look at the 'Workers' section of the Ledwidge Lookoff Rally page at http://www.lookoffrally.com!
