    looking at the R1 rules most everything is marked "must be original" no homologation specials or any really fun bits beyond suspension. seems like it would be cheaper and just as slow to buy a yaris and throw a cage at it.

    A 30k car that sounds ready to race Rally America sounds useful. How would it measure up against a Ford Fiesta R2? Those are about 30k right? The usefulness primarily comes form being able to order it ready to go. No modification needed, and cheap.

    The R2 Fiesta is 30K for the parts alone, not including the car or labor; it's about 80k fully prepped, fast and competitive. the R1 yaris will not be competitive.

    M-Sport has a few like new ones for about 40k it looks like. I wonder if those can be imported.

    The competition for the R1 Yaris is not the Fiesta R2 but the Fiesta R1. It will be considerably less than the R2!!

    Importing an R2 from M-Sport might face a few challenges. All the R2s built by M-Sport are 3 door. N America only gets 4 or 5 door models. If you want to buy a used R2 talk to Tim O'Neil

    the non-competitive answer was in regards to if it will be competitive in N. America. the Yaris will end up in Group 2 or Open 2 Light. there are no real details on homologation parts yet but with where it starts in stock form it has a long way to go to even keep up with warmed over golfs and foci.

    It was more a generic curiosity as to the limitations placed on us by the govt as to all of the cool cars they sell around the world. Which you cant have here. Like a Focus RS.

    R1 and R2 are totally different classes.
    If i was going to get an R2 it would be the Renault Twingo , Citroen C2 R2 or the Skoda Fabia , The Fiestas do not hold a candle to both of them in Europe.

    Theres an easy cure for it:
    make your own R2 by dropping in a Celica GTS motor and you are already in Fiesta R2 territory. Do some work on the motor and you are in C2R2 Max territory or more. will work at least in theory not sure whether the sequential trans will mount or not.
    This is something I would like to do some day...

    Logic;
    From what I saw the Fabia R2s werent up to par with the C2 Max?

    The C2 max is the dogs bollox , cannot get a better R2 car than that , but all are better than the Fiesta .
