Cool, I've been waiting for the new Peltor G79 to become available before getting a new rally helmet.

I do have one interesting question: the 1000 grams lightweight of the previous G78 was touted as one of its improved safety features, due to less loading on the neck under high G impacts (where G multiplies the effective weight of the helmet + head combo), yet the new design is 1550 grams i.e. over 50% heavier than the older design. Any idea what the bulk of this extra weight is due to?

Not that it is likely to affect me purchasing one, I have been overdue for a replacement open face rally helmet for a while now, I'm just curious.

Also, one clarification: the accompanying literature says both SA 2010 and FIA 8858-2010 approved, so does the helmet have both SA and FIA stickers inside the helmet under the liner?

Yes it does - BUT, 8858 is the HANS spec, not the helmet spec. (8860 is what you want)

So, it's not the FIA sticker you thought you were getting.
