hrm. Sounds like I will blow up the stock ones pretty rapidly?!?!?
Well, you know, assuming I ever finish the car.
Are you building something?
did you buy and need to update?
start a thread. Stick around. Give people time to re-engage. I am hopeful there can be some rebuilding back to a useful level.
I keep wanting to go to this one.
Can we fly in? Where is the nearest airport that will let us plug a block heater in? :D
I needed a break.
I haven't decided if I am back yet! :)
What is facebook?
I got my car out of the garage for the first time in 3 years this past week. Yay.
It has a lot of problems I need to figure out. I think I either have brake fluid or coolant leaking. I can't...
I have operated in the "Is it broken?" realm of thought for the past 15+ years.
I have done little or no testing of almost anything for various reasons, and think that many, if not most, club...
I can't remember if the ST struts are shorter, or if the knuckles are offset like the rear beam, or both.
Did both sides lock, or just the PAX side? I think it's the shorter of the two isn't it?...
Only non-stock stuff so far is just tossing the base car suspension bits on it- rear beam and front knuckles. Had to grind off some of the Bilsteins struts to get them to clear the ST CV boots. May...
can't imagine it's worth the hassle over a 1.6L NA - think of all the error states associated with the turbo and running boost that the NA won't have at all.
Year later update-
I got my pilot's license this year, so the car sat abandoned for a long time. Good thing I have photos of those logbooks, now I know what they look like so I can try to figure...
Where are you generally located?
I am building an ST, and although I have my doubts I will make SD this year, I sure wouldn't mind some local to SE Michigan help if someone were so inclined.
I have the M-sport Bilstein damper/spring kit on my as yet unfinished build. Like college, I seem to be dragging it out a bit more than ideal :D
They were on the order of $3k a few years back.
you have the stock ST knuckles, so the car remains very low?
After running the VW for a long time, I remain a bit concerned about FWD cars popping driveshafts if you change the suspension geometry...
Uh oh, that doesn't sound good. I was waffling on adding a plate to the top of the strut sheet metal, but didn't.
Curious to the photo of what you are talking about - hoping I don't have a...
The local friendly NASA inspector stopped by and checked out the car and associated paperwork.
Yeah, you want to get the control arms plated.
The car was designed to do some torque vectoring with the ABS system, so I guess if you unhook the ABS, you're going to get a bit more understeer...
Did you pull your restraints control module out? I picked the super hottest day of the year so far to start trying to get the wiring back into the car.
It's been a pain in the neck, especially...
I like AWESOMEDRONES.com and REALLYAWESOMEDRONES.com
There are some lesser sites - like LESSERDRONES.com that I think could do a better job, but MAKEDRONESGREATAGAIN.com is on top of that.
I finally put the hints together and saw that you bought something a bit newer and refreshed, so you may be OK on the rubber end.
You can make use a paint pen to understand what is prone to...
On our VW w/ ABF, it went something like this-->
At each service
recheck all subframe bolts - front and rear
recheck cv axle nut tightness
visually inspect brakes rotors and...
I'm going to guess it's the hood ajar switch - you should have a very difficult to see plug integrated into the hood latch.
If you threw that out already, it'd explain why you didn't find it.
Well, I don't have a lot of options for replacing it, so it better work.
I didn't have any real issues with it before I tore it down, so I expect it to be ok.
the 4.24 is available. I have it on Ebay for $250.
The trans in the car is sort of an unknown. I bought it used mostly to get the car back together.
I had a local person somewhat interested...
What's the purpose of the spare tire bar in the some of the R2 builds? Is it just to make the spare easier to handle by lifting one side?
