The third race in the 2012 Rally America National Championship held in Portland, The Dalles and Dufur, OR is in the books. The Oregon Trail Rally took place on May 4th – 6th and, like the event in Missouri a month prior, it saw a record amount of entries from teams all over the world. The weather held out and the FY Racing team from Houghton, MI, pulled through for a third place overall finish. This result should bump driver Adam Yeoman and co-driver Jordan Schulze up to third place in the championship.

“I couldn’t be happier with how the weekend went. We knew we wanted to push really hard on Friday night and get a lead on the guys we’re fighting to beat and managed to do just that. Going into the rough stages on Saturday morning we wanted to be cautious enough to avoid drama but on pace enough to stay ahead. We built up a comfortable lead over 4th and we weren’t really close to 2nd so we backed off for the rest of the stages and brought the car in for a podium,” says Yeoman.

The team did not have the time to get the new car together by the event so they campaigned their usual 2002 Subaru Impreza WRX. The car held together and performed quite well in the rough conditions that OTR is known for. A minor mistake on Saturday almost cost the pair their podium finish. ” On Saturday while trying to take it easy we had a bit of a moment. I misjudged a corner that tightened and slid wide off the road. We had some big hits and at a few times I thought we were going to go end over end. I managed to keep in it and popped back on the road, really only losing a few seconds,” mentions Adam.

This event is only Yeoman’s twelfth rally, including regional events. After winning the 2011 Rally America “Rookie of the Year” award, Adam has been working very hard to earn a podium finish. “It’s great to be on the podium for the first time. We’ve been working really hard to increase our pace and it’s starting to pay off,” says Yeoman. As the only American driver in the top six, the American flag on the roof of the car was a fitting symbol for the valiant effort put forth by the team.

The FY Racing team is already hard at work prepping for the Susquehannock Trail Performance Rally that takes place on June 1st and 2nd in North Central Pennsylvania. “The new car is progressing but very slowly. We are working hard on it but other projects are demanding our attention at the moment. I hope to have it finished for NEFR in July,” says Yeoman.
