The fast, aggressive driving and big-air thrills of rallycross are set to hit Pikes Peak International Raceway June 17 and 18 for the third round of the Global RallyCross Championship: “Last Chance,” presented by DiRT3.

Top driving and action sports stars from the United States and Europe will be among the competitors battling it out at the final regular-season event of the year to earn an invitation to X Games 17.

Two-time World Rally Champion Marcus Gronholm is set to make his return to the series in the Best Buy Ford Fiesta after missing the previous round due to a scheduling conflict. He handily won both RallyCross and SuperRally competitions at the first round, “The Revolution,” in Irwindale, California, earlier this year.

Also back in action June 17 and 18 is Rockstar Energy Drink Driver Tanner Foust, a three-time X Games Rally gold medalist and the only American ever to win a round of the FIA European Rallycross Championship. He drove his Ford Fiesta to victory at the second Global RallyCross Championship round, and finished runner-up to Gronholm at Round 1 in March. The pair are top picks for the podium again in Colorado.

BMX star Dave Mirra is expected to return as part of a stepped-up, two-car Subaru factory team effort, while Formula Drift Champion Rhys Millen and his teammate Marcus Dodd are also slated to be part of the mix in their Hyundai Veloster rallycross cars.

A new addition to the series is Metal Mulisha motocross star Brian Deegan, who has recently seen success in off-road truck competition and finished with a pair of silver medals in 2010 X Games Rally competition at the LA Coliseum.

These drivers and many more including local favorite Jimmy Keeney and two-wheel drive stars Dillon Van Way and Matthew Johnson, are sure to put on an amazing show in Colorado.

Rallycross combines the best aspects of circuit racing, off-road racing and rally competition to deliver intense action in a variety of fan-friendly environments. Global RallyCross will transform the Pikes Peak International Raceway’s large oval to a mixed-surface dirt and tarmac course that includes a huge, 70′ gap jump seen only at X Games and Global RallyCross competition.

Drivers will take on two days of competition in high-horsepower, compact cars. Friday showcases head-to-head racing known as SuperRally, and Saturday’s marquee RallyCross action features as many as six cars on course at once, aggressively bumping doors, sliding, and hitting the big jump.

In addition to the fierce door-to-door competition, drivers will also be available for autograph sessions and a vendor midway will offer further entertainment for fans. Tickets are $5 for Friday’s Super Rally event and $25 for Saturday’s main feature, RallyCross, and are on sale now at http://www.ticketweb.com/snl/EventListings.action?orgId=125773.
